| I am new to three gun, looking to compete in the tactical limited division. What are some good optics? Which one has the biggest bang for the buck? What is the best? |

I have been running an Aimpoint ML3 with 2MOA dot for a couple of years now. I like it a lot - it is bright enough for the noon AZ summer sun, yet turned down a few clicks it gives a fine, crisp aiming point. It is also supremely robust, parallax-free, and you can't beat the battery life. However, some people, notably those with astigmatism, may see the dot more as a smear (it happens to me in lower light), which can be a distraction. Still, for me it has proven to be the best choice. A similar option offering outstanding value is the Aimpoint PRO, which comes with a mount for ~$400. If you want to spend more, you could try the M4.
I also see a few EO Tech holograpic sights at matches. People who use them seem to like them, but I find the brightness adjustment to be a tedious distraction when making ready to shoot a stage, battery life is pretty poor, and some folks with astigmatism find the whole reticle becomes hard to see clearly. Some of the top shooters run the Leopold Prismatic. I tried one for a while, and found the optics to be very clear, but the eyebox is somewhat less forgiving than a "real" red dot sight, the mounting arrangement is not very sturdy, and I just never got on with the black reticle (a small dot that disappears on black targets or dark shadows). The illumination module is worthless in daylight. If you get a Prismatic, the Double Circle Dot reticle is the one to get. I'd limit it to the above 3 options. Anything cheaper is likely to be money wasted IMHO. If you are on a tighter budget, better to stick with irons. |

Wow things have changed when beginners to Limited Division no longer think of IRON SIGHTS as the First choice. Oh I forgot they are way to hard to learn how to use. http://www.multigunmedia.com/img/s1/v54/p1142186852-4.jpg He's probably an old guy - not a young spring chicken like you

But why in three gun when you don't have to. |

While StealthyBlagga shoots his Aimpoint quite well, I believe every major Tac Limited win in 2012 was done with the Leupold Prismatic with DCD reticle. That being said, I think a good set of irons (skinny front post in particular) remains competitive in the right hands. |

I am smart enough not to throw down a gantlet but I suspect a Major or two will go to an Iron gun this season. (it would help if I knew which matches you and James weren't shooting) |
