| I am looming for a decent compensator or brake without breaking the bank. My rifle has the larger threads while still being smaller caliber can I go with any 308 brake or do I need a 556 specific one? Also looking for a brake for an ultralight build I'm doing for the wife. Thanks |
| Standard thread on.223 barrels is 1/2"-28... did you buy a ban-state-legal barrel? If so, JP used to make ban-state-compatible brakes (can't remember the thread, not on their website anymore). The 5/8"-24 thread is standard for .30 cal, and so a .308 brake could be used - it will be a little less efficient but definitely better than nothing. |

I'm in the same boat. ARP barrel in 223 Wylde that has the 5/8-24 threads for my next build.
A 30 caliber brake/comp will not be as effective as one designed for a 223. the port in the front baffle that diverts the gas back is smaller on the 223. The 30 caliber comps will divert less gas to the sides. ARP seems to be about the only company that makes a dedicated 223 caliber comp with a 5/8-24 thread. Here is their muzzle device page. Other than ARP, closest thing to a simple break/comp that I've found so far is the VG6 Precision Gama 68spc . I'm starting to look at some of the 30 caliber linear comps. Other than that, Thread protector No clue what I'm going to do when I build a .277 Wolverine. Hopefully I'll have access to Solidworks and a machine shop again. Sure wish someone like Griffin would make a Flash Comp with 5/8-24 threads and front baffle sized for the 223 and 270 (6.8). HINT HINT... |
