It's a matter of preference. Balance is important to me. A rifle that is too light wont be as easy to shoot at distant targets for me. I dont shoot a heavy barrel. But I do shoot (for now ) a med contour one. Lighter barrels are kinda floaty for me on longer targets. I am thinking of going to a Govt. profile tho. for faster <50 targets. I dont think I would want a light profile barrel.

I run a 20" HBAR - not a problem for fast hoser stages, as what I lose on the transitions I gain on the double taps. I can keep up with the greyhounds just fine.

I ran a Med. Contour WOA 18" for about a year and decided to have it contoured under the handguards to .650".  It made a noticeable difference in how quickly the rifle pointed and as you mentioned, transitioned from target to target.  If it makes any difference, top shooters like Taran run light as well.

If I was to build another 3-gun upper, I would probably go with 16" + muzzle brake instead of 18" + muzzle brake.  It feels just a tad long and heavy sometimes, and I don't think the velocity gain is a substantial advantage (especially now that I am setup to reload heavy bullets for long range steel).

My Limited Setup

Pistol: XD-40 Tactical, custom magazine well.  Only 16rd magazines with my custom extensions and 15rds with Arrendondo Extensions due to the narrow XD-40 magazines but it works.

Rifle:  Rock River Arms Coyote Rifle,  standard sites, pretty much as shipped from RRA.  I did add a Badger tactical latch and over size forward assist plunger.

Shotgun: Remington 1100, was someone's old duck gun,  I put a new 26 inch Rem choke barrel on it (replaced 30 inch fixed full choke barrel) added a DMW easy load gate and DMW magazine extension (10+1 capacity plug to 8+1 when required by match rules), Choate Bolt handle, and William clamp on the rib rifle sights.  I got bored and did the funky paint job myself.

I made the AR mag pouch and the two white kydex shot shell carriers.  Safariland 771 STI magpouches (my favorite).  Progressive Machine aluminum shell carriers.  CR speed belt.  Holster was swapped out right after the pic, I'm now running a kydex holster that I reshaped for my 6" STI.

I have changed the 870 barrel to a 21" VR since this picture was taken.

How many mags do yall carry for your pistol/rifle? Also, would having a 24" barrel on my shotgun hinder my performance greatly?

For Limited, or Tactical Irons/Optics, I run two pistol mags, (they hold 20), one AR mag and 20 rounds of shotgun on the belt.  For Heavy metal, 4 pistol mags; the rest is the same.

It depends on the round count for the round. I tried to have at least 30-40 pistol rounds and 40 rifle rounds. For shotgun, I had a bandolier of 50 that I always kept full as to ensure the weight didn't make it ride funny. Really I think it would depend on the competition and the match. It never hurts to have a little extra ammo.
