What was your favorite 3 Gun/Multi gun event in 2011?
Please list the match, what was your reason for feeling it was the best and any thoughts on how it could possibly improve for the future. |

For me it's a tie between the PROAM and LaRue.
I appreciated the simplicity of the stages. Technical courses don't bother me but I'd choose a hoser over a bullseye type stage when choosing the one that is more fun. I like my practice to be grueling and my matches to be leisurely. (It IS a vacation after all! I wouldn't change a thing about either match other than the inclusion of 4 to 5 divisions in both. Rockcastle Pro Am- the template for match Administration.
Blue Ridge- hands down my favorite stages, year after year, even though I have worked the last 3 as an RO and put about 50 miles on my feet in the hills of Rockcastle. FNH- best overall. Good stages, options on how to shoot them, good admin and staff, great 1/2 day format. The only other major 3g match I shot this year was Ozark. |

In chronological order:
LaRue - Stages and props around the stages were very cool. Ran ahead of schedule most of the time. Negatives were no natural terrain stages and the long range stage could be worth far more than the other stages. Blue Ridge - Lots of movement, stages challenging but not overly difficult. Despite long stages things still ran close to on time. Cave stage was awesome, finishing 1st overall on cave stage was awesomer. My best finish of the year so I'm biased toward it. Rocky Mountain - Challenging natural terrain stages but at times overly hard. Targets too hidden at times, didn't care for the shotgun circus stage or the stage with multiple offhand slug shots at the same target 90-100 yards away. Range was beautiful, most stages were fun. I didn't care for the prize distribution method, but I did still manage to get one of my favorite prizes of the year there. Pro-Am - Very well run, stages were quick and fun. Industry support was great to see there. I'd still like to have had some longer and more difficult stages. USPSA Multigun Nationals - Pretty good stages. The many reshoots were not fun. I had to go to the store twice and buy more ammo. Prize table was not at the same level as the other major matches. FNH 3-Gun Championship - 1/2 day format was great, I actually got to do something besides shoot, eat, and sleep when I traveled to a match. The best mix of bay and natural terrain stages. Really liked the options on how to shoot the stages. Hated the heavy 4" steel plates at the longer ranges as I had a lot of trouble knocking them over with direct hits at first. Things went much better after I bought some heavier loads and tightened up the choke. I don't have a problem with heavy shotgun targets if I'm aware they're going to be at a match but don't put in the rules all targets will be calibrated with a 20 ga. 2 dram load if you're not going to bother with it. I had a good time at every match this year. The negatives for were all really minor even if I came across differently. I will probably go to all of them again next year but my favorite was FNH. |

Easily the Pro-Am. Everything ran smooth, stages were straight forward and were shooting events instead of track meets. Prize tables were awesome and there were
lots of things to do during the down time between stages. Actually, it was probably the most fun 3 gun match I have ever attended. Craig |

I have to agree the AR15.com/RockCastle Pro Am was one of my favorite matches of 2011 but fell short to only one event. The 3 Man 3 Gun Championship that is held in Topton, PA at the TAPS club and think for me its my favorite match of the season yet again. The stages and strat that the team event / concept involves is something so different than what we normally shoot, I think thats one reason it sticks out in my mind and I enjoy it so much.
The Pro Am was easily the best run and organized event of 2011. The FNH 3 Gun event at the PNTC in WV was also very well run and very organized. All three of these events should be considered "must attend" matches if your able to make them. My opinion only of course. |

For me all the majors I shot each had their pluses.. Can't say any one was better than the rest... Just different.
BRM3G was a great shoot and being able to stay on site at the rock castle hotel really adds to the whole match experience... FB3G was great... I know, it was in 2010, but c'mon... Close enough. Ozark 3G probably had the most interesting stages and dispite the dust and software glitches remains on my list of best times ever. If I had to pick an over all winner it would have to be FNH ... Primarily due to that awsome half day format. I hope all matches can move to this scheduling model... From a shooters perspective it's great. |

I think my favorite match of 2012 was the Thunderbeast Team Challenge.
Shooting 12 inch plates off sticks with an AR at 575 yards, gully stages where you and your partner negotiated a stage at the same time, night shooting, stages with a one hour par time with bonus points for finishing early, good friends, awesome prize table, ect... |
