Not much talk going on here so thought I would bring this up. Last summer at a match I hosted I changed limited to the following.
Handgun Anything currently allowed in USPSA limited 10 class. Meaning you can load only with 10+1. My reasoning was that new shooters with single stack 1911's Glocks, HK's Beretta's etc could all compete and fairly equal ground. Yes the trigger is better in the 1911/2011 variants but that is less of an issue than magazine capacity. Shotun. Pump action 20 gauge or larger loaded with 8+1 only. I did allow Knox stocks and vang comp style barrel porting. Reason being is the pump does not have much of a place in three gun right now since heavy metal is not that popular. I always saw new shooters with pumps. I feel this gives pumps a place to play without the costs (.308 ammo) associated with heavy metal. Rifles. Same rules at current USPSA limited. Red dot and irons only no magnification. I am also going to limit the magazines to 30 rounds this year. I called this division Production but you could call it what you want it was popular and had the most shooters in it. What do you guys think? Pat |

If you're considering soliciting opinions for a major match: How do you feel about new shooters bringing the equipment above and shooting in the Limited division? My personal feelings are that if you're not shooting competitive equipment in the division, you're shooting for fun. If you're new, you should be shooting for fun anyway. (So should everyone else!) If you're new and your equipment is holding you back from being more competitive, you'll probably stick around long enough to be able to play with bigger toys. In my opinion, creating a division for newbies in order for them to win with their equipment wouldn't accomplish much since experienced shooters would just jump into that division for an easy win. At that point, you have just split existing divisions making them weaker - and with the equipment above, you've probably reduced the turnout for the Limited and Heavy Metal Optics/Irons divisions. Having them assimilate not only eliminates that but also draws them into the already established structure of the sport. |

Pump guns suck. And I shot one in every major match this year up until the 3 Gun Nation Championship. Let the new shooters come out to their first couple matches with a pump gun, see them get frustrated at operating it, and recommend they buy a M2 or SLP if they stick with it.
Say no to pump guns. |

I feel its better to create a division for these guns that most people own. Most people do not own a M2 starting out. Nearly everyone has a pump shotgun. Pat |

At the local level, I think it is a great idea. If I was there, I certainly would appreciate it. My son wants to start this year, so he is taking my CZ-75 to use. That is going to bump me from Limited over to Heavy Metal Limited since I don't have another pistol to use but a 1911. I also use a pump, so that made sense (and I have a .308 with irons). Of course here locally that means that I will be the only one in the division. If we did this at the local level, then I could just stay in Limited (Production) and save the ammo cost for the boy :) I will talk to our local 3Gun person here that runs the matches and see if that might work here for the club. Over half the shooters here run magnified optics, so maybe not. -Corn

I like your concept. Most people don't start out with $3k worth of stuff. 30rds mag for the rifle only great idea, I have yet to see a real world shot them up where some gunfighter is packing a 5 foot long mag . As far as tactical irons go that should be it. If you want to run a red dot/1x then you should move up too tactical optics you are useing a electronic site and it is magnified 1x is magnified in anybody book. A red dot gives an unfair advantage over iron sites. As far as a pistol production should mean production that off the shelf not trigger jobs polished feed ramp and so forth. Shotgun shoot what you got, pump you should get a time factor minus. Just because your cyclic rate on your $2k semi shotgun is 5000 rds a minute doesn't mean you should have an advantage just because.
You could call it the Real World Class. I just wonder if you took all the do dand out would any of the big times names stay the same or change. |
