Sorry about the crappy kill shots. Was concentrating more on shooting the hog than holding the camera steady.

In before giraffe pics.

I finally got my trap.  Damn racoons keep wiping out the soured corn and tripping the sucker.

That's why we use the trip line like that. We can raise it up high enough that the coons will go under it and they won't trip it. Since we started using that type of trip I can count on one hand the number of times we've came up on an empty trap with the door closed and when we're really trapping we can be running 10 traps or more.

I have caught tons of them without even having the door open to start with.  Bait the ground heavy along the path in and put a huge stack right behind the door and they just push in.  The traps are much bigger, but they have the same door design.  Coons were a huge problem for many years, but now I set out a 55 gallon trap at each hog trap for the coons.  Got 5 at one time in it this winter.

how do you use a 55 gal barrel to trap raccoons?

Well, you're missing some of the hogs then because some of them won't push open the door to go in. When we first started building traps we would experiment with different types of doors and stuff like that and set them out with game cameras on them so we could see how the hogs reacted to different types of situations.

We aren't just trying to catch a few hogs, we're trying to catch every single one possible so we do whatever we can that will get us closer to that goal.

I cut out a wedge on the lid, put a pivot point on it like a seasaw (like that spelling) at a door latch to one side that is welded to a baited trigger.  Coon comes up pushes, falls in and it is counter weighted to close and relatch.

I will try to get some pics up.
