Ok, so my buddies dad has a nice thermal camera that he uses to check out buildings and things to see if there are any air leaks and things like that. He went down to arkansas and used it to kill 3 pigs this past week. We have our 3rd texas trip planned this thursday and we have 4 rifles with 4 night vision scopes. The bonus part is my buddies dad is letting us take the thermal camera. I was excited as it was, but now I really cant wait to go. Im figuring we will try and spot the pigs with the thermal then move in with the night vision. I say try because I know how hunts go, sometimes they are all over the place but you cant even catch a glimpse of a tail. I will hopefully post pics when we get back. I also got a burris shotcam to hopefully get somthing on that.
You'll enjoy having the thermal on the hunt. It is a great compliment to I2. For spotting hogs there's nothing better than having a thermal unit. However, it does suck some times when you can see them threw the thermal in some undercover, and you can't make them out with NV. On a few occasions I've had a hog 30 yards in front of me clear as day with the thermal, and I couldn't see shit with my NV.
I spent $12k on a FLIR thermal camera for a start-up business that didn't really go anywhere. I was about to sell it when I happen to have left it in the truck and it came out to the ranch with us for a weekend. Hog hunting has never been more exciting. We just sit out on the trailer porch drinking cold beer and can spot hogs as far as 800y away down the pastures. We just wait until they reach the closest field and then start our stalk instead of sitting quietly out in the field all night. Very awesome technology.
