i'm going on a trip in june. i was recommended to use corbon 65 grain hollow or plastic tips for my ar with a 1/9 twist.

i'm also bringing my remington 870 magnum shotgun and dont know much about slug shells.

any suggestions?

especially if you've used it before and not just what you read in a magazine.

I like using soft points or partitions if i'm using my AR.

I really don't use V-max's because you rarely find blood with them.

Hog kill zones are NOT like deer kill zones...

This guy shows the perfect kill zone for a 223.

Do you have a rifled barrel or smooth?

I use remington rifled slugs in my smoothbore 870. I've never tested for accuracy though...

i've got both, an 18" smooth bore and an 18" rifled bore.

I shot a deer last fall with my Benelli M2 tactical which has an 18 in barrel.  Using a bulk pack (15 rd) winchester 12 ga. rifled slug, I shot there deer at about 40 yards away.

Shot through both shoulders making a 1/2 hole going in and an identical one going out.  Deer made it about 20 yards before dropping dead.  With the amount of blood that it leaked, I don't see how it made it that far.

I am a true believer of the lethality of 12 ga. slugs.
