I am buying an 870 express (tomorrow) for doves this year, but i have been thinking of making a hog slayer out of it. I figure with a rifled barrel and a scope, the 870 would destroy hogs out to 150yds... But then again, i have also seen what "dead coyote" pair with a turkey choke will do out to 70yds...and that would be far cheaper than buying a new barrel. What say you? |

Plain old Foster slugs out of your smooth bore barrel will work fine at 75-100 yards.
Depending upon where you hunt that should be plenty of range for shooting hogs. If money is an issue it would be better spent on some cheap slugs and practice than an expensive barrel and $3 a shot ammo. |

A semiauto might be a good choice too. 1187? You can blast em really fast. Some people say they can touch 200 yds with sabot slugs |

Rifled barrel and Dixie Terminator or Tusker is devastating:
