I went out to Pearl River (Honey Island) yesterday morning with some guys and their dogs, hog hunting.  So we were out in that marsh and man was that terrain was tuff to get through as every three steps I sank to my knee.  So, anyways they were a couple hundred yards in front of me as I ain't in the best shape to be running with dogs.  When all of a sudden this sow crosses my path about 10 yards in front of me so I pulled out my Ruger P-94 and shot the bastard twice high shoulder it turns at me(as I have always been told that they will charge you) and starts coming straight at me not real fast though.  I put three more in it's face,1 below the eye, 1 above the eye and 1 in the side of the cheek.  So it ran under a little bush and I put another 1 in its heart.  This was at 7:20 two hours later I managed to drag this thing back to the boat eventually with the help of 4 other people.  Estimated weight 200ish, now she is skinned and on ice ready to go the butcher in the morning.

Now I have to go clean my ruger as it is rusted as it was in my pocket as I basically swam across a few sloughs

The moral of the story I envy you guys that hunt on dry land and pull these things out with 4-wheelers and not have to drag them out by hand through swamps and marsh.

I strongly suggest something other than a 9mm for hog hunting. A 4"-6" .357 mag with 158+ grain hardcast bullets is a good starting point.

+1

Need a little more punch. I don't go to the mags but i switch from 357sig to 45acp.
I just want as much penetration as possible if I have to go to my handgun. 357sig opens them up pretty good.
Soory for the hj

Nice hog

Yeo that salt water tore it up quick.  I didn't know what to expect from the terrain so I didn't prepare, I guess I could have coated it up with some protectant.

I have had this ammo in my pistol for years for home defense and when I go to the range I swap it for FMJ then reload it with what I believe is 180 grain Hollow Point Winchesters.  SO I probably bought this ammo 5 years or so ago so I don't really remember.  I will check the remaining four rounds I have of it, in the morning as they are in my ar and it is cold outside.
