I would like to get a rough estimate of how much freezer space I will need for my hog hunt in Jan.  My father and I will be taking 1 hog each.  The place said the average size runs from 250lbs to 350lbs.  How much freezer meet does a hog that size produce?  We have a few full size storage freezers, but I imagine we will have to give some away.

You are looking at around 70% weight loss or getting around 180# for the 250 pounder or 240-50# of meat from the 350 pounder, (depending on whether you save the ribs or trim out the neck).

YMMV, but when it comes to feral hogs I prefer the 80-90 pounders myself 'cus they just flat taste better IMO. Not to mention the bigger they are the tougher their hide is and the really big ones can break ya simply by the cost of the box cutter blades used to peel and dress those big boys....

(assuming ofcourse that you use box cutters to peel 'em like a banana - in little strips while dressing them out)

This hunt is for my first hog, so I want a big trophy one.  We dont have any wild ones running around the lakeshore of northern OH yet.  I just want to gain knowledge of hunting these animal with this trip.  I will be moving down south for the service in the summer.  I figure what I learn here will help me when I can hunt free ranging hogs.
