Cagey bastard this one.  Like the Keystone Cops dodging me around that tree.  I ended up missing him, but flew him right at my partner over the hill who put him down.

My Christmas gifts.

CZ Sharptail 28 gauge and a bunch of South Texas pen-raised Bob Whites.  Only had a few that wouldn't fly for love or money.

It was a GREAT day!

This shot isn't so hot from a composition and framing standpoint, but what it DOES show is...

7/8 oz of #6 shot fired from a 28 ga passing through the wings of a rooster.  You can also see the wad coming in from the lower right.

I've never captured the exact moment of impact that shows the shot string actually passing through the feathers.

i’m guessing you’re taking this from video and then removing a frame? Either way nice job!

It’s easy if you have the gear (hardware and software) and a little practice.

Those shots are just frame grabs from GoPro video (Hero 6), mounted on my head. I take the raw footage, import into Lightroom. Lightroom has a frame grab tool, so once I’ve extracted the frames I do some minor post processing work (exposure, tone, sharpening, color, etc), then export the finished product.

With a GoPro you’re dealing with fisheye, so anything farther than 15-20 yards is going to look like a tiny spec, but its impossible to carry a DSLR and shoot at the same time.

When I do want super-rez high quality photos I’ll leave the gun in the truck and follow the other hunters. With the DSLR I get shots like these:

Truth be told, I have as much shooting the camera as I do shooting the shotgun.

Hunted all day for this one.  Amazing how you can go from limiting out to just one when the snow comes.  Love the winter plumage.

Man, you’re getting roosters and grouse on the same push?

I gotta get me some of that action.
