Going on my first Coyote hunt this evening and I am looking for any tips you guys or gals may have. There have been many tracks through the snow lately and I finally have some time to get out and hunt. Again any tips for a first time coyote hunt...
Thanks in advance. |

Be patient. Be quiet. Be still.
These animals hunt tiny field mice and such. They are accustom to looking for minute sounds and movement. No doubt we sound like a freight train coming to them. Spend half an hour to an hour on stand, depending on how much ground you have to cover. Set up your electronic call a little way from you. They will be most focused on the source of the sound. If you are using a hand call, try to be as still as possible while calling, scan with your eyes as much as possible, avoid moving your head if you can. Good luck. |

Quoted:
Be scent free and play the wind just as if you are deer hunting. Yep, beyond this it is site specific. Yotes will pattern themselves to what they know of the area. An old farm by an encroaching suburb could be quite different from some deep Eastern shore low lands or remote areas of the Western MD mountains. Don't let the cautious predator pattern you. Also, It really helps to know what their preferred food source is during particular times of the year. If they are full of squirrels/deer guts, dumpster trash, Fido or raccoon you may consider different tactics. |
