I'm not sure where this will fit in, but I figured this was the best spot. A buddy of mine told me about predator hunting in Virginia/West Virginia. I'm under the impression its coyotes, mountain lions, foxes, etc. Is this a thing? He said money is paid per animal? I'm just curious I guess. Can anyone shed light on this? Thanks.

I don't know about the area you mention.  Primarily predator hunting means coyotes.  But there are a lot of predators that are pursued.  Trappers not only trap but will opportunistically shoot predators and some predator hunters don't trap at all.  Some fur bearing predators are regulated, others are considered vermin to be shot on sight.  In MT, Mountain lion, bobcat and wolves are regulated as far as shooting them opportunistically.  However coyotes, fox and badgers can be shot at any time without a license though to trap these same fur bearing predators one needs a trapping license.  Fur buyers pay for the pelts which are used in clothing though there are probably a lot of different items that it is used in.  I know muskrat fur is used primarily for fly fishing flies. I'd assume perhaps predator fur may have similar uses.  HTH.

I hear we may be getting a season on Malamutes here in Big Sky country....

There is a market for coyote and fox fur along with other furbearers. But predator hunting isnt something you just decide to go do and make money on. It takes years before you will start turning a profit, if ever.

And I doubt there is a huntable population of mountain lions in the Virginias...
