So, I suppose my dad doesn't love me because he doesn't want to take me hunting.

He went alot as a child and I guess got burnt out on it.

I've gone through the hunter safety courses and I've got plenty of firearms experience, but mostly with tactical firearms.
I've found an adult with an interest in hunting as well, but he has the same background as me.

Neither of us know where to get started.

I purchased a CMMG .22 conversion for my AR, so I've got a good caliber for squirrels and other small game.
My dad also has an old .22 with a tube magazine that I can use as well.

What do I do first? I live in Indiana, squirrel and rabbit are both in season here.
Should I try to hunt public land? Should I try to find private land?

What do I need to buy?

I didn't see a FAQ here

Lots of farms in Indiana with lots of groundhogs eating up soy beans and other crops. Drive throuh farm country and ask some farmers if they mind you hunting some of them just to get started. After you get to know a few, you should not have too much trouble with hunting some bigger stuff. Deer tear up an awful lot of farmers' fields too.

I suggest that route b/c from I remember of Indiana, there was not too much in the way of public land for hunting.

Myself and the other guy interested in hunting are located in Kokomo.

I wouldn't mind traveling an 60-90 minutes or so in any direction, that's not a big deal.

Also thanks for the tip on talking to farmers

Talk to some friends family or coworkers that are outdoorsman, they should be able to get you in the right direction and give you some good local advice. If you do not know anyone, go to the local gun/outdoor stoor and ask an employee where a good spot is to hunt whatever it is you are after. Also it is a lot easier to clean/butcher an animal after watching someone else do it, or show you how in person. Know the laws and regulations, be safe and have fun.

You're not that far!  I live in east of lafayette, about half an hour from kokomo.  What do you wanna hunt?  Always looking for more shooting buddies at least!

I'm in the same boat, only in TX.  I'd love to do some hunting, but don't really have the land to hunt on.  A friend of mine has a small farm in the family  and I've been fortunate enough to do some hog hunting, but other than Hog and Coyote, they really don't have much else to hunt there.  I have a boy on the way, and once he's old enough, I am just going to just get in on a lease somewhere.   Men should teach their boys to hunt.
