Im so jealous I wish I lived in a place with enough flat land to actually see and shoot groundhogs. I have always wanted to do it shit dude. set up high by a hay field down there. I run camera tripods to get elevation to shoot here because it's slight rises. At least with a small hill ya can set up high with a bipod. My good friend got a ticket a few years (sheriff in medina county) back standing in his truck bed shooting groundhogs off his roof with a soft bag! Can't shoot out of a vehicle here

I suspect all N.E.Ohio groundhogs have built an ARK and sailed to Pa. ect. Crap I can't believe the rain this spring. How would ya like to be setting on $9-$10,000 of corn seed here. At least he can trade back for Soybean seed. Dang I'm real tight with my farmers here and I certainly feel they're pain now! |

I won't be shooting bean fields up here in early june this year! Tornado warnings twice this week. We're well above average and none of the 4 properties I hunt have anything planted. We've had a ton of rain here and we're getting ready to get hit again as I type this. Grass is very tall also due the moisture making them harder to spot. All my good fields are beans this year too. ![]() |

lets hope june brings a dry spell. There will be alot of no-till beans up my way. I hate that, when they spray the roundup and kill the weeds theres clumps of brown everywhere. Looks like groundhogs a few hundred yards off
goodluck this year. |

Quoted: mid 50's I can still catch pups by hand out back. Though with my old feeble hands I wear welding gloves now http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/i342/lennyzrx/017.jpgAnother big storm coming as you can tell by the dark background. Nice catch old man! I went out tonight, saw two but no shots. That storm came through here earlier. I did take some pics: Walking up to check the barn, it's loaded: ![]() Another outbuilding: ![]() My mule: ![]() My trusty .17 Rem. ![]() I'm fortunate that I have access to this property. It has a little bit of everything with short range shots in the barns and 600+ yards out in the field to the left. |

Quoted: I'll bet that big dodge comes in handy in this soft stuff I have a 2wd Ranger. It adds about 1000 yards to the walk in this weather! It takes me wherever I want to go. I've got older factory brass, some nickel cases and formed up some LC cases for .17. I'm sitting pretty good for brass. I'm going back out tomorrow, good luck to you if you do. |

I'll hit Rogers place early, take some heat off his back from the wife over the yotes. I don't care much for shootin them till fall though. A few other farmers have told me they see yotes all times of day now? The does are probably starting to drop fawns now plus I believe NE Ohios yote population has upped a bit? I can hit a couple other farms after that. Like you said dang fields have grown up so tall it's tuff. |

soon poor old maynard will be reduced to chasis'n Buckey Chucks this way.
as the weeds grow in un-tilled/planted fields us Buckeys get on edge and are sadly reduced to this ti's very sad I have to do sprints to corner these bastards. I'm goin for bigger stuff soon! More Bud will be needed after prior combat holds on these critters! I will go with the new swinging tail hold, stay tuned!
got to find another camera person! All I hear out of the wife is asshole and some other stuff. I'm to busy to understand it all?

All I can say is that I'm disturbed you haven't shot that groundhog yet. nope. not out back here. What ya don't see is a new BIG HOUSE built in the old bean field next to me. I simply could'nt dump 52k on 2.3 acres! Figured no one would build that close on a 4 lane within 80 yards and to me 20k my offer sounded fair
it lasted 2 weeks I'm most likely headed down south out of ohio anyhoo |

My first huntin' experience ever today... 'Been shootin' for years, but never at anything living.
My first kill.. A bit on the small side, but I figure that made for a challenge. 'Small target y'know Not a long shot... maybe 75-100 yards taken with my Savage 10FP in .223
One of my buddies with his and the days first kill... 'Was supposed to be mine, but... I couldn't find him even with help from another bino-equipped buddy. I'd say 175 yards.. Taken with a Rem 700 in .243
A short clip of our "guide" taking one at about 100yrds with his Rem700 also in .243 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSAF6AiG74w Awsome day... Can't wait to do it again. |

not alway's fun,
Welcome to the varmint hunting world Girlieman, it's fun and exciting.... can get expensive too.... Congratulations on your first kill. my stealth ride for the weekend LOL. I got to make sure I have targets in the future. I can half ass farm when pressed into it. It's been a hard spring up here in N.E, Ohio so when it's dry and late they call the old fudd's to help.http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/i342/lennyzrx/002.jpg and yes! that Deere is close to my age!
