I've called in a few through the years, but have just started getting into it more seriously.
Had a great calling day yesterday. I took a SG, and my son used his dead on 223. He shot a female coyote the first stand. Ok. It's going to be a good day.
Second stand he missed one. Third stand he had on run in front of him at 20 yards.  The bum never even alerted me to that one. He shot at it and it flipped, flopped around. We went o get it and it wasn't there. No blood trail, but track-able. We were out a ways on it's track when we heard a pack yipping and howling. We figured "our" coyote ran into their territory, and they were letting him know it.
So, we're a long way from the e caller. We got down in the dirt and I used my Ruffydog. Within a minute or so, four coyotes were charging us. My son shot when they were just out of SG range. He missed, and I lobbed 3 shots their way as they were leaving. I asked my son why he shot when they were out of my range? He said that he thought the I would shoot the 2 or 3 to my right.
What???? I was locked on the four coming straight in. I had just called in 6, 7 coyotes. What a hoot!
Only had one more shot. At about 70 yards he missed again.
He had been 9 for nine on his coyote shots this season. Until yesterday.
He figured that he had used  another batch of lighter ammo. I dunno? It's his story.
I warned him that I'm going to get my old 22-250 up and running and bring it along the next time out.
The entire day was fantastic. Have my son come all of the way home to hunt with the old fart.
Spending that time with him was the best. Calling was a hoot.
We called in 10 or so coyotes, and only got one. all in all a great day.
