I am considering using a 22 LR CB for Cyotes around my home. I live in a small town and I will be using them for shots 50 yards or less. I do not want to wake up the neibors or have the local Police show up. I need a quiet round. The city refuses to take care of the problem. If i take head shots will these work ok. My dogs and chickens are in danger. Thank you for the help.

| If a CB is all you can use where you are then by all means put as many as possible it the Yote. If they are hunting that close to a lot of homes they are looking for a happy meal, (a small house dog that has been let out to pee). On another note: our local news had a piece on a che-wawa that had been grabbed by a Hawk that flew away with him. They were interviewing some 12 YO kid that was describing how little Hoppy was was up there and flying away. Don't know why but I laughed until I cried, maybe the med's im on. To top it all off, little Hoppy came back home the next day. I wish that little sob could talk, that would be one hell of a story. |

Quoted: I disagree. A wounded coyote would be more dependant on easy prey like pets and livestock to survive. You would be better off educating them with a paintball gun.If a CB is all you can use where you are then by all means put as many as possible it the Yote. Reinforce your chicken coop/yard and keep the coyotes out. Wounding a yote with CB's is going to make more problems then it solves, for you or your neighbors. ETA... If it's NOT illegal to shoot them at night where you're at, then let your neighbors and police know what you are doing up front and use a shotgun with BB. |

Wouldn't recommend it.
I've had a substantial number of CBs, fired from a revolver mind you, fail to penetrate the skulls of big, boar coon at less than ONE yard, if you hit the thickest part,or low angle. I have killed 250+ lb hogs with CBs, but I usually have the muzzle IN the ear. (actually, use standard vels, from a rifle these days) |

I have emptied a revolver with CB's into a treed coon at two yards, only to have it jump down and run off into the darkness. The dog finally treed it again 150 yards away, where I dispatched it with a .17HMR. CB's are marginally effective for tin cans. I would not shoot anything bigger than a squirrel or rabbit with them. |

CB's are a very poor choice for anything over squirrel size game IMO. |
