I have always hunted everything with my 870 remington. If it could not kill it, i had no desire to hunt it. That said, i am slowly beginning to change. I am thinking more and more of getting a small game rifle other than my 10/22. What do you all think of the Savage 93R17-F? It is not the nicest looking stick on earth, but i suppose i could always buy better wood. But beyond its lackluster looks, is it a good firearm? I can get it for 100 at work(pawn shop) and figured why not. I only plan to shoot squirrel, rabbit, pop cans, and paper. Also, any advice as to ammo and improvements to make it a better shooter, please, let me know. |

I think savage makes a pretty decent .22 and the price seems good. Check it over good before you buy it and check for sales at the local stores. I really like the Marlins. They are very accurate for the price and they are solid. Is for the ammo, I think any high velocity .22 LR will be fine for you. Some say you have to have hollow points or must use stingers. Blah, blah, blah!!! A hollow point should be a better choice but with the .22 I think it really does not matter all that much. I you can get a 550 pack of hp for $10-15 you should be good to go. Shoot it in the head and you have a DRT rabbit. Thats what I do. For chuck I think .22 LR is a touch small but I have also killed plenty with one. Hope this helps. Ghilly |
