It seems I read somewhere about the difference between highland and lowland grizzly meat. Highland griz meat is NASTY because the bear will typically make a kill and return to the carrion over a period of days. Lowland griz meat is better because the lowland bears typically eat fresh fish. Any comments? |

One of my coworkers is a Chinese forigen national. I asked her about eating dogs, she talks openly about it alot. She told me how her mom cooks them. Apparently they eat wild dogs in China too. She said her mom stir frys wild dog. She said to slice it thing, marinade it in rice wine, chili peppers and ginger. Then stir fry it. She said dog is a very popular food in cold weather in China. |

| I used to live in the country, and during a particularly lean month we had to hunt rabbit to survive. There were plenty of coyotes around, but it never occurred to me to kill one for food. Reading some of the comments here, it's probably just as well. There were plenty of rabbits, and they don't taste half bad if you know how to cook. |
Rabbit's a fine meal. When I was younger, my Father bred and slaughtered New Zealand Whites for a good while. They were all white meat, very lean, and had more flavor than chicken. Of course they're cleaner and easier to keep than chickens, and less stinky. |

Cougar meat is very taste. I have eaten rattlesnake, groundhog, squirrel, skunk(my grandfather skinned and cleaned it), raccoon, and porcupine. The groundhog, shunk,porcupine are very greasy when cooked. You need to cook them on a rack and let the grease drip off the meat, same with bear meat as I remember. Don't eat priarie dogs (they carry to many diseases) or coyote. I hunted squirrels in the fall to put meat on the table when my dad was out of work (logger and the woods and mills usually shut down in the late fall). Once there was a foot or more of snow on the ground we quit hutting squirrels. They start eating the pine and fir needls and taste like turpentine. We also hunted the more normal stuff like grouse, deer, and rabbits. I hunted almost every day of the year for 7 years when we lived near the Canadian border north of Spokane, WA back in 1960 - 1967. I miss being able to hunt (knees and back are shot), was good times. Diamondback A 45 may not expand but it will never be smaller than .45!!  NRA Member |

Ever heard of biomagnification? Every toxin that is in the local food chain will be exponentially more concentrated in your coyote dinner. Coyotes are also resivoirs for numerous diseases that expand well past rabies. Sarcoptic mange, canine distemper, and tularemia are just a few of the epizootic diseases that you need to worry about. You need to make damn sure to cook it entirely, and to be honest, that likely wouldn't be enough to kill all toxins that could be present. I personally would advise against it, but hell, it's your life. Good luck.

UPDATE: It rained like hell this last weekend, I went out anyways and got soaked with no luck in killing coyotes - did get a couple rabbits though! This weekend is looking like rain also but it should clear up Saturday and that's when this meal will hopefully take place. I know it's been a long time coming, but I wanted to wait for the freeze and now it keeps raining! Stay tuned . . . . |
