My random idea on how to load a deer up to a truck bed. (Page 2 of 2)

Page 2 I use a pull through type ratchet strap like these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07W5K9D7C?tag=arfcom00-20 Wrap the end with the ratchet around the antlers/head and attach the other end to one of the front tie down points in the bed. Lift the head up onto the tailgate and pull the strap tight. You might have to work him up into the bed a little more and tighten the strap as you go, then you can lift the ass-end up onto the tailgate. |

1. Gut deer 2. Open tailgate 3. Grab antlers or (front legs if doe) and climb onto the tailgate 4. Walk backwards pulling the deer into the bed You don’t need to be especially strong for this to work. I think the average man could get all but the biggest deer into their truck like this. |

Some there is no way to just "pick it up." As posted previously, the thing that has worked for me in a pinch is hooking antlers to the tailgate cable, climb into bed, then pull up from there. If i can get a good grip on a rack (or front legs on a doe) from standing in the bed I can do it, but a big buck can be challenging alone for even physically fit guys, much less average guys. Just a wide board helps a ton. |
