I have a doe antelope and a ml deer tag this year. My dad, FIL, friend, and our pastor also have doe antelope tags. Over the years, I have always wanted to make a buckskin, but have never had any reasonable free time to do it. It looks like this year I may be able to.

I have a book called "Deerskins into buckskins" and can easily get the materials needed for that.

I have also seen the kits at the store with all the chemicals. It looks like either one, but I am curious if anyone has much experience and can shed light on which would be the better choice to go with.

Not afraid of the work, and I will have the time this year to do it.

Thanks

This better not be a safe thread, OP.

You picked the right book as a guideline!!  My suggestion would be to gather everything you need ahead of time, and start practicing patience now!!!!

I forgot about this thread. I killed a doe Saturday. .308 entrance hole and 3/4" exit hole. Will pull the hide out of first solution tomorrow and grain and membrane. Hide was in perfect shape. See my thread in big game for the story.

I used the book and am using lye and eggs. Will see how it goes.

Just use Google. There is a TON of sites about it.  And they tell about the type, how, and effort in doing it.
