Official 2013-2014 Deer Season Photo Thread (Page 5 of 5)
Got this guy on my 2nd morning out in Jan. archery season. 40 yard lucky shot right at sunrise, 5x4 (hard to see in this pic) scored 160.5 and has a 30.5" spread (for this area it's big) First time shooting my bow at a live animal and can't break it in any better! 
Was a head on and I was aiming mid chest, hit right where I aimed but the deer ducked the shot and I got lucky he didn't go sideways... Even got trailcam video of the shot!

Tucson... yeah they can bust my balls for a straight on shot... but a fatal shot is a fatal shot.. people make bad shots broadside too.
I had plenty of energy to make a good shot through the chest and that's where the arrow was heading till he ducked. He didn't suffer, only went about 75 yards, arrow got the carotid... |

 October in coastal SC. marlin 30/30, I also have a 308 but shots are close and I was unsure about the sighting in of my 308. I use the hornady lever evolution ammo. I am really sold on it. Very flat trajectory for the range I use it in. It's funny though, my 308 shots leave a big exit wound. The hornady ammo shows a small entrance and exit wound, but the inside looks like a blender was in there. I guess because it was the lungs. This one was DRT, the other ran a small distance, but was running dead. The shots were from an elevated tree stand, the round going in kind of high behind the shoulder, but comeing out right behind the middle of the other shoulder. I know the marlin QC is supposed to have gone down, and the one I have isn't pretty to look at, but I can't complain about the way it functions. I don't baby it in the safe, it gets scratched and rained on, I try not to bump it. I have a burris scope with weaver rings, I was going to change all that but after the last couple shots I'm just going to leave it alone. |
