Probably the worst and yet still successful shot I've ever taken. After a 5 minute stare down on the path he moved about 10 yards to my left behind some trees, while he was moving I shouldered my rifle to line up a shot. He stopped walking at a point where I could clearly see his head but nothing more. After another stare down (this time about 10 minutes) he moved a few feet forward and gave me a perfect shot to take. What I failed to pay attention to (since I was concentrating on holding still) was that the butt of the stock was on the edge of my vest. When I pulled the trigger it slid slightly and caused my shot go wide left, luckily it went straight into his neck, taking out the spine, and causing him to drop right where he was, no chasing, no kicking, nothing. Not the most graceful shot, but it was a kill and didn't destroy much neck meat.

I went out with another buddy to help on his hunt and had another lion looking at us 40 yards away and he couldn't see the darn thing. He wound up with a pretty nice buck too.  |

Thanks, he was a young one, I'm guessing 2 1/2, but he was pretty hefty. It took 3 of us to get him all the way up on the gambrel, though it was a single pulley set up. We got about 70 pounds of meat off of him, would have gotten more from the processor, but skipping out on a 4 day wait and $75 charge was fine by me. |

This is the best buck I have ever had the oportunity to shoot. Remington 700 30-06, running away at about 60 yards. He was chasing a doe hard. Opening day here in Missouri.

Shot him from 154 yards sitting about 30 feet back in the trees overlooking a field behind my uncle's house. He was chasing a doe and going toward the tree line on the right side of the field so I was tracking him and right when I went to shoot he stopped, causing me to miss. I sat still for a second, cycled the bolt, shot again and hit him. He ran a few hundred yards and must've been trying to swim across the pond and drowned because I found him in about 2 feet of water... So I had to go all the way back to the house like a mile away, get waders, come back, strip, and go in and get him.
First buck I've ever killed, so I figured what the hell and I'm having my uncle's taxidermist do a shoulder mount. He weighed in at 166.6 pounds field dressed. |

MY FIRST BOW KILL!!!
Well, I've shot a lot of deer with a gun, but for the last two years I've chosen to try it with a bow. I had two chances last year, but buck fever got me, and didn't get an arrow off. But I was hooked!! We have an extended archery season here for near urban areas, runs until Nov.30th. SO... Been seeing these deer in a few openings in scrub oak. No trees tall or strong enough to support a tree stand, so I put out the ground blind, brushed it up, and started waiting. Yesterday afternoon, I saw a two-point, some does, then a few does came out in front of me, but kept looking back into the scrub. Then this bruiser stepped out, sniffing for does. WOW. My heart was in my throat!!! I hadn't been this excited on a deer since I was a teenager!!!! Long story short, it's a bi&$# to try and draw a bow in a ground blind with 6 deer at 20 yards. He spooked, but was so into that doe that he walked back. Second time was the charm. Drew when he was looking the other way. Double lunged him, right above the heart. He went <80 yards. So I called My wife and had her bring up the kids. My 8 year old "tracked" it for me!! By then the light sucked, and you have to live with crappy cell phone pics.

Opening Day of WV. I missed a decent 8, that 8 went further up the woods and my buddy nailed it. This one was on the other hill a half hour later and I nailed him.
There's no atv trail so I came up with a system to pulley them up to the top of the hill, lots of work but well worth it.

Here is my dads buck from this year. 22 Scorable points. I was sitting in a blind with my 10 year old nephew earlier that day (11-17) and this guy walked past us at 30 yards. My nephew couldnt see him through his scope 
Later that day he walked in front of my dad and he took him with his muzzle loader at less then 50 yards. |

I've sprayed it on all kinds of stuff this season and watched bucks sniff it and keep moving on. I think the buck thought he was following a recent hot doe's trail, since he came in 30 minutes after I walked through there. For what it's worth I had buck bomb out when I killed both my bucks this year. I didn't notice any reaction from them but I know it didn't hurt. |

My friend Chris and I added a couple more opening weekend. Sorry I am just now getting around to putting up the pics. In the pic on the back of the truck, mine is on the left. I took him on Sunday evening of Indiana's gun opening weekend. Chris killed his first thing opening morning. Also, I try to bust a doe every year with my old 1100, but I will never pass up the opportunity on a 'yote!

First deer ever. The undamaged side had 6 points. Damaged side has the brow tine broken along with the huge part missing from the end. Looked typical so if it was unbroken I'm guessing 12 points. No idea on weight so we'll see how much meat after I get it back from the processors. Anyone have a guess on age? I don't know how to judge and its too late to look at the teeth because he's already at the processor.

He looks like he's 5.5 or older. A 3.5 year old wouldn't have that much mass (body or antler) and honestly most 4.5 year olds wouldn't either. Either way, that is an ASTOUNDING DEER and you ought to be proud as heck. |

got a couple doe today. 1st day i could hunt doe where i hunt in PA, only saw 3 all day but all at the same time, these two were the ones i had shot at. the 3rd took off back the way they came in.
taken with a Marlin 336Y in 30-30 shooting 170 gr Remington Corelokt fatory loads with a Redfield 2x7x33. the bigger doe i shot first and i made the hit off hand at probably 150 yards. i didnt think i made a good hit t first but the bullet entered through the left shoulder and exited behind the right. when i got her opened up i took out a lung and took a good size chunk out of the heart. she ended up traveling about 50 yards before piling up. i saw her run off but never saw her drop. the smaller hung around for probably 20 minutes pacing back and fourth on the hillside and making some bleats but i never had a shot i felt comfortable with ( too many small trees and thick stuff). she ended up coming in behind me about 50 yards. i stopped her with a grunt and hit her square in the left shoulder. the bullet passed through completely destroying the heart and lungs. Here are some pics showing where i shot and then the deer. first shot

after i drug out the small one to go back and look for the other i came across this little guy on the path. at first i thought it was a fake one made of plastic. pretty cool to see in the middle of the woods 
I still have a buck tag left but i doubt i'll go back out this year. i'm plenty happy with these two. we'll be able to eat off them for a while. |
