Is it bad to urinate close to your tree stand?
I was always taught that you shouldn't leave any scent in the woods. I always think about the movie Doc Hollywood when this topic comes up. When they get out of the car and pee all over the woods to help scare off the deer so the hunters can't shoot them. I just read an article about making mock scrapes, and it said to fill it yourself or use deer urine. If I can make a mock scrape close to each of my stands, I could be out there most of the day uninterrupted. In the past, I have just tried to not drink too much liquid in the morning, left the woods when I had to pee, or tried to walk far away from my tree stands to relieve myself. What are your thoughts? |

Many tests have shown that the enzymes in urine disapate quickly. After a couple of hours, they will just be able to tell that "something" pissed there, but not who or what. Having said that, if you eat a lot of red meat, it may have a "predator" smell when it is fresh. But...I have pissed from my treestand many times and had deer walk right by within minutes and not spook.
I also smoke in my treestand and have deer stand down wind and not be bothered by it  Might make a difference hunting urban/suburban deer that smell people all day long.
