The first weekend of May I went to my hunting area to see if i could make a small food plot. I brought the tractor to northern MN to dig up the ground and throw down some clover,Chicory and Alfa. next to where i planted that i also planted Corn, turnips, lettuce and sugar beets. The ground is sandy and pH is 7.
the main problem with digging up the ground was "quackgrass" or Elymus repens. the roots are deep and was hard to till the ground. My problem now is the food plot is in danger of getting over run with quackgrass is there anything that will kill this stuff? I did put up a game camera. I don't have picture of the plot it self but i did get these:

I set up the camera on a trail that they have been using to go to the woods and the pond. the food plot is set up between the pond and woods. this is my first year of doing this so i might be doing everything wrong. Advice is welcomed as i am always willing to learn. Goal is to keep deer year around and thin out the does.

Next year i plan on doubling the area but first i would like to kill all the quack grass. What is a good herbicide that I can spray this fall and spring to try to kill off the quack grass?

I have been told to spray Roundup or other burn down herbicide two weeks prior to digging up the ground.  Burns down every green plant to the roots.  The area will be brown prior to digging the food plot.

When you till the soil and plant it without the herbicide treatment, the plant roots already there will just start growing again and compete against your chosen footplot plant species.
