never had any response at all from the buck jams and such. also had no response at all from Cmore deer.
the acorn flavored licks seem to work well, same with the deer cocaine. simple molasses poured over a stump works well too. best stuff i have used was a powder mineral (similar to the deer cocaine) I picked up form a sportsman's show several years back. deer dug out a 5 foot wide hole 2 feet deep, and kept digging there for 3 years! was a place out of WI, havent been able to find the stuff since |

Wal-Mart corn.
I do have an ethical problem. All my life I’ve heard (and it has been law) that hunting deer over bait was unsporting and violated the Fair Chase philosophy. Now, in the Southern zone of GA its legal, sporting and does not violate the Fair Chase philosophy. But, in the Northern zone it is still illegal, unsporting and violates the Fair Chase philosophy. I hunt in the southern zone (south of Augusta). Do I bait or not????? |

Do you set your stand up near oak or persimmon trees? Do you use any kind of doe scents, bleats, rattle calls or grunts? Unless you just setup on a trail and wait for a deer to walk through you're using some type of bait to draw the deer into killing distance, whether you put it there yourself or not. |

I have used that stuff and was AMAZED at how they tore the place up. It gets a little expensive (I think it is 20-22 bucks a gallon bucket, and recommended 5 buckets a year per spot). I have not put any out in 2 years, but they are still hitting the spot where I did put it. Have created a spot about 5 foot around, and 3 feet deep depression. Now in the spring/early summer they were all over it. Come late summer/early fall, and not so much. They still visited it, just not like the spring/summer, which makes sense. As for baits/enhancements? I have tried many (where legal) and have had mixed success. Over the years I found that you have to have something different from everyone else around you. For a couple of years, the surrounding properties were all planting the Big Name Food Plot stuff, So I went to CO-OP and bought Turnip Seeds. Planted a 1 acre Turnip patch. I always had deer in that patch, even though several acres of Food plots were close by, and thousands of acres of soybeans, corn, wheat, etc....... |

I really wish i could remember what it was called. when i got it, it came in about 30-40lbs paper sacks like when you buy corn. was kinda redish in color and had the consistancy of kitty litter. |

Never hunted in a state that allowed baiting and never had a problem shooting deer. Congrats! Come hunt where I hunt and talk. All the best trails and water locations have turned from public to private and posted. ![]() That's a problem of land access not whether you need bait or not. We have the same problem here in northern va. Very little public land to hunt on. I hunt on private land around here. |

Here in Wv near the Potomac I hunt my inlaws little 9 acres and it's just a funnel really as it is pretty steep. But I do put out a mixture of a couple boxes of Arm & Hammer Wash Soda over 40lbs.water softener salt tablets, sprinkle with Strawberry jello mix. Hitting that harder than the 50lb. salt bolt 20 yards futher up the ridge. I don't have a issue with baiting as I'm not looking for horns ( but won't turn a nice rack away |

We have the same problem here in northern va. Very little public land to hunt on. I hunt on private land around here. Which is the same problem... Deer used to cut right through our property like crazy but they've since diverted to our southern edge mostly. Some cross through our property but a majority cross through the neighbors land(used to be owned by a good guy that put a lot of hunting pressure on his land, we'd push deers' paths of travel back and forth all hunting season till his cheating b**** of an ex-wife left him and took the land with her, now it's posted and no one hunts it). So while you have a super time killing deer on, what I'm sure is some ideal property, the rest of us(well, some of the rest of us ) are hunting decent land with shit population due to factors outside of our control. Unfortunately baiting deer is illegal in our county but we are thinking of trying it a county over where it's legal where my uncle has some land.
There is a ton of public land to hunt in our area but it's not good hunting land. The swamps have turned private and even though the owners don't even know they the purchased the land and haven't set foot on it they still feel the need to post it and not allow any hunting on it, even by request. The beautiful 100 acres of 100+ year old mature oak trees the deer used to travel through our private land to has been clear cut by some dipshit brothers that just got back from Japan, made it big on some business deal, and decided to build a subdivision in the middle of bum**** Wisconsin. But no, instead of turning it into a beautiful wooded residential area with some of the best looking oak trees around they clear cut EVERYTHING down. Yea, it's bad... The only reason I'm glad we still have our land is because some day the entire area is going to go private and get developed and then we can sell for a shitload of money. |
