My uncle had two world class deer on his place. He has been scouting these deer since summer, mulitple trail cam photos, etc. 1500 acre farm with no one else hunting. One was a 16 point 190 class mule deer. The other was a double drop tine whitetail that would score over 200. These are not exagerated scores. My uncle actually passed the mulie a couple times hoping for a shot at the whitetail. He was going to let my dad try to take the mulie.
So he leaves for a couple days to attend his aunt's funeral. Comes home and finds 4 wheeler tracks all over his place. Guess what, no deer!!! A couple guys down the road start bragging about their monster bucks. My uncle gets wind and gets ahold of the warden. Passes on the info and sure enough, the warden finds both the big bucks at the other guys place. Unfortunately, the warden says that he has no way to prove that the guys shot the deer on my uncle's land or where the guys who were running around with the 4 wheelers. Dammitt!!!! Well, even though the warden couldn't prove it, he apparently had a hinky feeling. He spent the next several days keeping an eye on these guys. They racked up multiple violations, including running deer with the 4 wheelers, shooting from the 4 wheelers and trucks, tresspassing, taking way more deer than allowed, and tagging a bunch of mule deer with whitetail doe tags, all under the watchful eye of the warden. Busted!!! These guys are screwed big time. And they are outfitters!!! Unfortunately, 2 fantastic bucks, and multiple other deer were poached, but we got rid of these shitheads in the end. Justice will be served. |

Glad to hear they got busted, hopefully they'll do some time and pay some big fines. I wish they'ed hit poachers harder. I read the VA game reports and the game cops spend all this time to catch some one like the OP mentions and they end up getting a $300 fine. |
|
After these guys have been prosecuted post their names and the name/location of their outfitting business on every hunting web site you can find. Also make sure to post what they were convicted of. Too many times these guys get right back into the business of "outfitting" and poaching after things have cooled off a bit. |

Not the same as the OP's story, but............................................................................ Ouch this is going to leave a mark regardless if true or not. www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=10&f=4&t=641913 ETA: OP, I feel your anger. I had a Buck (14pt) (Had white stripe down left side, like was spray painted) on game cam 2 years in a row, spent quite a bit of time in the pre season doing long distance scouting/glassing. I pretty much thought I had him patterned for the upcoming Bow Season. Season rolls around, and I seen him, but never within Bow Range. I played "hide and seek/peek a boo" with him for about 5 weeks. First day of Gun season rolls around, but I still have my bow. Weather is miserable, wind blowing, raining, and fairly cold. I made it until about 1130, and then headed to the house to grab a bite to eat, and change clothes (I was soaked). Made the trek to the house about 10 minutes away, and 10-15 minutes to change/eat, and 10 minutes back to the woods. So I pull in, park, and start towards my stand, I see vehicle tracks going thru the field,(weren't there when I left 30 minutes earlier). Follow tracks, and about 40 yards from stand, there in something laying in the field, lots of blood, head is missing. Look at side of deer and it has a white stripe down it. *#!$^*%^*~^%(&)(^#%!()*(%^(~&%&(&%*~&#%&()^()*~^#%^()*^&#&~%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They shot him from the road, and took the head. |

did they have no hunting ect posted on his land? In New Hampshire you can hunt on all land, public or private unless its posted otherwise. Just saying. Seriously? That's messed up. Just because my land doesn't have a sign saying "keep the $^ out" doesn't mean you have free access. Tresspassing is tresspassing, whether its posted or not. What's to keep shitheads in NH from just taking down the sign and saying, "I didn't see any sign". I would guess that 90% of private ground in KS is posted with signs or purple fence posts though. |
| Most of the Northeast is privately owned there is little to no state land available for hunting... unless your land is marked as Access by permission only then people can access your land. The markings doesnt have to be a sign, paint can be used to mark your trees as well... |

It was near Dodge City. I also heard about a bunch of guys from WI that were busted poaching in northwest KS though. Apparently they were running deer with greyhounds and multiple other violations. That might have been the ones near Oberlin.
Found it: From KAKE online "December 9, 2010 Five Wisconsin men could lose their hunting privileges in Kansas after being accused of poaching at least a dozen deer. Authorities in Decatur County say the men apparently ran the deer illegally using greyhounds and vehicles. The bucks were a mix of white tail and mule deer. The men –– all members of the same family –– were arrested in the northwest Kansas county Wednesday after a wildlife conservation officer called the sheriff's office for help. The dead bucks were piled on a trailer and taken into downtown Oberlin as the men were processed in court. The Oberlin Herald reports the sight of so many deer stopped traffic. Sheriff Ken Badsky says none of the deer had been tagged. The hunters were released after posting bonds totaling $83,500." Can't find any news on my uncle's incident yet. –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– Quoted:
Hagdaddy- Was that up around Oberlin? I got a forward the other day that several guys got busted poaching up in that area. The forward said there were some pretty nice mulies and whitetails that were poached and had some pictures. |

Some states are going to a system where the higher a poached buck's antlers score, the higher the fine. I think they have a base fine, then a certain dollar amount per inch –– fines could easily exceed five figures. |

Our county had RoboDeer set up on the backside of where I hunt, it was on the Power Companies land. They caught 3 road shooters in a day, one being my neighbor, lol. I thought RoboDeer would be this big ass whitetail, to really entice the road shooters, but nope, it was a little basket 6 point, not even a buck I would shoot in season legally. |

Apparently a good defense attorney covinced some jurors that the "trophy" robodeer was entrapment. So now they use a smaller robodeer.

A little over twenty years ago I had a Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries officer come in my office and asked if I would help them with something but if it worked I had to keep it secret. We ended up putting together the first robo deer in Louisiana, I worked on the automation and controls, a well-known taxidermist in the area did the rack and hide. ( a nice 8 point IIRC, nothing huge but nice ). The deer had reflective tape on the eyes, the head turned, and the tail would twitch. They ended up using it really hard for the first few months before word got out about it. It was brought back to me usually two to three days A WEEK with the electronics shot up, we put 'em in the ass thinking they would be safe
The deer was mounted in an alert position, I was told that several poachers watched it skeptically, but the tail twitch was irresistible and what usually set the hook. Some poachers shot at it four or five times before getting tapped on the shoulder. |
| I have had people try to run me off my own property before I took the time to post it. From that time on I arrest everyone I see on the place. We refer to most of the invaders as city folk but some of the local shit heads have started poaching again as well to eachI wish a long jail stay here the minimum sentence for poaching is 10 days. |

That twitching tail must work because no way anyone that has it in their scope for more than a few seconds should think it's a real deer. |

The property borders FTCKY.SNIP www.theleafchronicle.com/article/20101215/NEWS08/101215016/1002/rss So here is what one the offenders recieved....... Does it seem a little light? Wallace pled guilty to the 20 charges of possession of illegal wildlife and 20 counts of violating tag requirements. His sentence included $2,500 in fines and court costs, a seven-year revocation of hunting and trapping privileges and a loss of all mounted deer, which TWRA valued at about $6,000, a 12-month probation. If he violates his probation, which includes hunting, a jail sentence will be sought. Granted, still Federal Charges pending.... |

We have a group of dog hunters running our land. We have approximately 2500 acres. They have 80 adjoining. The paved road splits our land. The dog hunters drop their dog on our land and run the deer to theirs. Dogs go missing - just saying. I've never whacked a dog in the woods, but my buddy sure puts it to them. If a neighbor was doing that though, he'd quit real quick, that or be out a lot of dogs. |

We gave the dog runners (who ran dogs actually thru our deer camp last season) one chance to not come back again. When they came back this year we called the warden, and the only charges he could prove were having a loaded firearm in the vehicle. Sooooo..... Next year they are going to have to get a new batch of hounds, and to top it all off the offender is one of the local school principals. I saw him at a recent school board meeting ( I am a member of an adjoining districts school board), and commented to him that it must me nice not to have to feed those dogs this winter....and that he probably should spend too much time or money on some new hounds if he continues to run them in the area he lost the last ones. 5.45x39 works pretty good on beagles..... |

I hope the publicity and federal charges put Wallace out of business.
