I've had good luck with the winchester 150gr powerpoint.  Shot several deer with them and never had a problem.

Hornady's 165 SST. That plastic tip works like most other tips, it forces the round to expand and transfer energy to the tissue, bone etc.  Another plus, at least in my rifle, is that it shoots to the same POI as the Fed 168 match and nearly as accurate.  I also like the Horn 168 TAP.  The TAP seems to be less deflection through glass than either of the other two I mentioned.  But it is not much different and frankly I've only tried about 20 rounds each on windshield glass and that was in a training environment.

But back to the original question, since I've never shot a deer that was inside a car yet, I'd pick the 165 SST.  IF YOU DON'T GET YOUR DEER WITH THAT ... I'll bet it's not the gun or bullet's fault

i haven't hunted much with my .308, but last wednesday i managed to shoot an inch at 100 yards with Monarch 150 grain soft points.  my rifle didn't like the hornady 150 grain SSTs.  they kept getting stuck in the chamber.

so until i find something better, im hunting with the monarchs.

I am going to be using 150gr Winchester Power Points.  I took the rifle out to the range yesterday to sight it in with my hunting ammo and was not extremely happy with my load choice.  They were not very consistant.   I was shooting 2 inch groups at 100 yards with a 10mph cross wind.  I feel they are good enough for hunting but again was not very happy with the consistancy.  If I had time to get out to the range again I would get some Blackhills Gold TSX.

Haven't shot a big game animal with a factory load in 33 years - sorry I can't help. REM core lock, Win Power points are great bullets and are cheap. the animals always die. deer up to elk. my 2c

Glad you posted this as it saves me from typing it.

These have been my go-to hunting rounds for a long time. Winchester supremes AKA warewolf killers.
Absolutely devastating on game. I did have a quartering to me shot with one once and it entered at
the front left shoulder,  ending up at the right rear leg. Literally blew the guts into small chunks.
It was not the nicest field dressing experience I ever had

Interesting, I plan on zeroing my scope on my Armalite AR10 with the 168 FGMM for 200yards. I definitely will have to check to see if the SSTs zero the same. I use the SSTs in my 7mm Mauser and it is a fantastic round at killing deer. Lung shots literally liquefy the internals.

168 AMAX or 150 corelokt SP.

Tailhunter, I suggest zeroing with TAP 168, than switching to the 165 SST.

Saved me a lot of typing as well. I started with the 150gr and moved up to the 168gr. I seem to get better accuracy out of the heavier bullet.

BH Gold 168gr TSX.  Killed numerous deer, hogs, elk and nilgai with it.  Exceptional accuracy with excellent performance.
