If you can see their eyes (meaning able to distinguish them in the head) in the average hunting scope, they're close enough for most centerfire rifles. That's a nice buck! You did good but you'd better quit now or you'll be up a tree watching the sun come up several months out of the year if you don't. |

I shot my first deer at 220 yards and a double the next year at 250yards and my father shot a nice buck that dressed 189lbs at 287 yards. So 166 yards is far from pushing it with a 243 |
