Well i finally got my first deer, its an 8 point buck. Its not huge, but for my first i dont think its to bad
There are much bigger deer where i hunt, but i was tired of waiting....and i wasnt going to pass up
another 8 point (already passed on 3 or 4).

The shot was 166yds. I hit him with a .243 100gr winchester powerpoint, he didnt take a step...he dropped like a sack of hammers! ( i was most
proud of my shot).. if you look you can see where i dug the bullet out of his shoulder (it was just under the skin)

Good buck for a first one. 166 yards is pusing it for a 243 but then again shot placement is king.

And remember you can eat the horns so meat in the freezer is the thing.

Now get back out there and get yourself a doe to go with that buck.

If you can see their eyes (meaning able to distinguish them in the head) in the average hunting scope, they're close enough for most centerfire rifles.

That's a nice buck! You did good but you'd better quit now or you'll be up a tree watching the sun come up several months out of the year if you don't.

What round do you use for Deer?
243 is a Great Round for deer.
I shot my first deer at 220 yards and a double the next year at 250yards and my father shot a nice buck that dressed 189lbs at 287 yards. So 166 yards is far from pushing it with a 243

My family routinely shoots them beyond 250 with the 243.   166 is no prob at all.
