I was fortunate enough to get #3 this afternoon on a small piece of land in Winchester, VA.  I decided to change stands about 4:15 due to the wind and while I was walking to the second spot, up jumped a nice size deer about 50 yards away...didn't see any antlers, so I shot it.  At the crack of the rifle, up jumps a 2nd deer that was bigger.  Turns out, momma's little button buck of joy was too eager to leave the bed.  Momma stuck around for a few minutes, but never presented herself for a shot.

Either way, nice to have another one on the ground and changing stands mid day doesn't hurt when the winds in your favor!

Congrats on the kill

FWIW, I hate to kill button bucks.  I accidentally shot one last year and it drove me crazy....it sure tasted great, though

Same here, hate killing a button-i just think of what it could have been in the future .  Only way not to is to really look at the deers facial structure prior to pulling the trigger, if it's a shorter stubbier nose it's a male.  If you practice QDM and take does as we all should you will end up killing some buttons on quick reaction shots.

Yeah this is a 66 acre piece of land that only me and a buddy hunted the last 3 years...the owner decided this year to let 2 more people hunt it.  Before we could tell them that all we had been shotting were does, they had killed 4 deer - all scrub bucks!  Once I got around to talking to them about killing does and letting the bucks walk...they said that they didn't like that.

Since it isn't my land, I can't force them to do it.  I don't like killing buttons either, but they sure do taste yummy!

went back out today...got there about 3:15 and it was windy as hell and still had some snow on the ground from Saturday...decided just to walk around and play the wind to see if I could walk up an some...saw 2 deer walking/eating in a loggin road about 65 yards away...got down on one knee and shot the biggest one...the second one hung around, but I let her walk...
