No pickup.  No relative has a pickup.

What's the best way to get the carcass to the processor?  Tarp?  Lashed to the luggage rack?

Thanks in advance––again!

Take a hint from Il Cosa Nostra.  How big is your trunk?

Bikes work too!

You can also tie bodies to the roof of your car:

But to really answer we do need to know what options you have.  I have tied deer to the roof and frankly that really sucks!  I use a Hitch-Haul on my Expedition to carry a deer or I do use a trailer.  The problem isn't the blood as much as all the ticks that come off a dead deer so I wouldn't want to put a deer inside if you don't have too!

I use a "Hitch Haul" in the 2" receiver hitch on my van or jeep.  I've also just thrown them on the roof of the jeep and tied them to the roof rack.  In the distant past I've put a tarp down in the back of my Ford Escort and put the deer inside.

When I lived in Australia I'd put the kangaroos in a big trash bag and put them in the back of the land cruiser.   At least I did until I had the blood leak out of a bag and under the rear mat right before going on vacation for a week.  Man did the cruiser smell bad when I came back.

I've got a suv w/roof rack and a civic hatchback.  No hitches, though.

I asked my wife where I could get a body bag.  THAT generated a strange look...

Great pics, too.  I can rent a truck from U Haul so we'll see as it gets closer.

Thanks again!

If you have anything other than the smallest of the small SUVs you should have plenty of room for a 96 qt. (or thereabouts) cooler.  I prefer using one if I have any kind of driving to do to get back from my hunting location.  That way I can stop at the first convenience store I happen across, buy a few bags of ice and throw them in the cooler with with carcass.  Remember getting the meat cooled down and keeping it there is crucial for maintaining it's quality.  Many a pile of venison has been ruined because it was allowed to stay warm for too long.  Most does and smaller bucks will more-or-less fit in a cooler of that size (though you might not be able to close the lid), and even larger deer/hogs will fit if you quarter them.  If you can find and carry an even larger cooler, so much the better.

What is the SUV?  Does it have a trailer hitch?  If not, add one and buy the Hitch Haul!

Like I said, that is what I use with my Expedition in case one of the guys I hunt with can't drop the deer into their pickup for me.  Just get a heavy duty hitch (Class 3) and add this:

They are rated for 500-pounds which should be enough to carry a couple deer

What really would have been funny is if she listed a few sources right off the top of her head.

I probably need to go with the hitch/hitch haul.  I need to hang a bike rack, too so I've got justification.

Thanks, guys.

I have never used one of these, but I have seen them being used at Check in Stations, and Hunters hauling deer back in trailers, on hitch hauls, strapped to trunks, on cargo racks, etc......

http://www.huntmdown.com/GameBag.html

I asked one hunter about it, and he replied it helped to keep flies, and dirt/debris off off the deer while transporting it. Seemed to make sense.

Before I bought a truck, I used a Hitch Haul on both a Bronco and a Jeep Cherokee. I've hauled a large buck and two does on it at the same time, and those three deer didn't break it down.

Put a big cooler in the back seat and quarter and debone your deer that will usually save $$$ at the processor some do not charge for this but some and most do. Once the meat is off the bone its easier to pack and age imo. Depending on the temp outside I usually do this at the deer rack or even a tree just take something you can use as  a table top.

Suggestion for the bike rack if you go the hitch/hitch haul route.

Buy a 2 or 3 of these and mount them to the hitch haul.

Lockable Bike Hitch

I have 3 of them on my hitch haul and can usually squeeze a couple other bikes in between.  Just pop the front wheel off the bike and clamp them in place.

My cousin would put them in the trunk of his car.

Put a tarp around it first though.

I use a hitch/hitch haul combo and line the hitch haul with a plastic tarp and fill the body cavities with ice and wrap everything up with bungee cords. Keeps everything cold and out of your car/SUV. Just replace the ice every 200 miles or so and the meat stays fresh.

I have a Subaru hatchback. I fold down the back seats and lay out a tarp.
