So I've determined that I don't want to be winding up half-deaf next time I go shoot a deer... does anyone have good ear-protection advice?  Anything they'd recommend?  Or should I just steal some earplugs from work or bring a set of muffs, and hope I can get them on in time?

I use these:  SureFire EP-3 Sonic Defenders.  They work great even at the shooting range, and still allow you to hear a normal conversation with only minimal muffling.  If you want to spend more then Game Ears are probably better.

I use these.  Peltor Tactical 6-S MT15H67B-01

They almost turn you into the Six Million Dollar Man.  I love 'em!

I literally just picked up a walkers game ear 4 and it works fantastic now I just need to get a second one to put in the other ear. Got it at the cabelas in buda at the bargain cave for $120 normally $250 only thing I could tell was that it was just a open package or a return works good and does muffle after a really loud noise. plus side is I didnt break the bank and I now can hear squirells fart out to 100 yards.
