Several years ago when I did FT8 for a while I worked Antarctica a few times on 30m, it seemed to be the best band to get them, so I would suspect 3Y0K will be similar. |

Bouvet Island is the #10 most wanted DXCC entity in the world. It took days and many hours of trying with no success for me to just make one contact. Competition will be fierce and and the only advice I can offer is that if you can't hear 3Y0K then don't bother calling. Blindly calling on FT8 or CW is not going to magically put 3Y0K in your log. All you are doing by blindly calling is making it extremely difficult for those that can hear them. This is not going to be a casual contact, so if you aren't prepared to put in the time you most likely won't be able work them. Can you work them with 100 watts and a wire? Sure but sadly the stars have to align and the gods of propagation have to shine in your favor. |

I was having fun with the ring of hell post. I have listened a few times to the pileup just for grins, but yes, I heard the last "rare" dx, but there was no way in hell they were ever going to hear me, same with this one. I commend all of you putting in the hours to get them so you can brag to people who have no idea what you are on about.

God was smiling on me this morning, and I made the log for a 12M SSB QSO. It was an event that will forever remain in my memory -- as long as I don't get alzheimer's or dementia. I awakened this morning in a somewhat bad mood of sorts. I threw on a pair of lounge pants, sat in my radio chair, and fired up the laptop. 3Y0K was spotted on 24.940 Mhz, so I tuned in. I could barely hear him, but by gosh, at least I could. I slapped on some slip-on shoes, and headed outside into a heavy rainfall with no shirt, hoping that no one would drive by. Lol! There I am, lowering my inverted-V dipole down out of the tree, with one leg running through limbs. It is cut to 15M resonance, but I had 40M legs twisted on. I took them off, and folded the wires back to 12M length, and hoisted it back up and restaked the legs. I was soaked, like I'd just gotten out of the shower. No kidding! I ran straight for my radio chair and started calling. He was faint, then other times QSB robbed me of propagation completely and he was inaudible. After probably chasing him on and off for almost an hour, I was about to abort the mission when he suddenly grew louder. I called, and this time, he actually called me back. I couldn't believe it, and actually thought I may have worked a pirate. Lol! I was relieved when the log was updated a little bit ago and I found the QSO listed. |

Just worked them on 10.131 also. He reported me a -4db, he was -17 on my end. I was listening to them on 15m CW early morning & they were workable but I only tried calling about 15 min. Dang flu bug got me I had to take a break. The lids & are gonna make it tough for a CW qso. |

I also copied them well on 10m CW yesterday morning. I listened to the mess for about 5 min. & said NOPE! Your lucky if you get 5 uninterrupted seconds to copy the DX over the band police & idiots. Still amazes me how so many have no clue what "split" means or how FT8 F/H mode works. Was a nice day here so I powered down & went out to take the snow plow off my ATV instead. I did make the log on 30m & 40m FT8 so that made doing something else yesterday an easier decision. * Update: I got lucky & worked them on 30m CW 3/10/26 @ 6:25 UTC. Had to resend my call a few times, but he dug me out.

I can't seem to snag them on the high bands. Seems we are all doing much better than the last one to Bouvet. This group was much better prepared. The helicopter & boat big enough for a landing pad is the way to go for Bouvet. Glad the weather is mostly holding out for them. If they are forced to leave today, I'd be happy with what I got. |

| Congratulations, guys. Yes, last time they only had a couple of 100W radios and a tiny generator. I felt much greater joy working hard to get the only contact I made with that desperate group at 3AM than the ones I got this trip. I think only 1200-1500 North Americans made contact with them the last time. They already have 10 times that many this time around. |

Good weather never seems to last long on Bouvet. This group did a great job in a short time IMHO. The last group went down there ill prepared with rubber dinghy's to transport gear. They also could have quadrupled there QSO's if they would have set time on FT8 program. Everyone copied them for days just never in sync. Maybe prop will be good this week, still plenty of time to make the log. Hoping these guys have a safe tear down & trip back home when that time comes. |

| I might have made two contacts today, we will find out maybe tonite when they post. Hard to tell because of the pirates. Worked pirates before, so I never show up in their log. I would be all in on the death penalty for pirates. I would come to the hanging and rejoice. Anyway we will see. |

Thanks. I will try once more on 40 tonite. I have worked a pirate on 40.. He was weak enough to have been them, but it never showed in their log. The times I have tried on SSB, and CW their sigs are just so weak, I can't reliably copy them. Without FT8 I would have never gotten them |
