The antenna slopes down to probably 20-30' above ground, and is running EW. It is sitting under high tension power lines, probably 13 KV or more. He is running an IC-7300 with an MFJ 993B tuner. Ironically the same setup I have, which we got independently. His house is in an RF black hole, with hills all around 2M barely works there, even with a 10' fiberglass antenna strapped to his chimney. Chris says he tends to fade in the evening, while I remain strong. We are running the same EFHW but mine is oriented almost NS, also about 46' sloping down towards 25'. This probably has more to do with his black hole and antenna orientation. Chris is 40 or so degrees off the end of his antenna, while he is broadside to mine, and that probably means about 3 dB more gain from mine. |
| I also run an EFHW when checking in. Mine is home made, they are easy to make, if you can count turns and wrap wire around a toroid you can make one. My transformer is on a fence post about 4 feet off the ground, and the wire goes up to about 30 feet into a tree. It works for me, and using it as a sloper seems to make it more omnidirectional. |

I don't think I transmitted on it last night. If you got the vertical SWR close to 1.5 or lower, doesn't matter where it came from! NC always has a good signal. I tried to get a relay but no one could hear me. I didn't have my glasses on so I'm not sure what the G90 got temutanna down to. It sounded like it was struggling, though. |

Bottom line - if it works for you, that is the antenna for you! Me, I keep playing with the things thinking/hoping, I will find some miracle...I know better, but I enjoy playing with antennas. |
