I had to take the wife to a friend's house for their annual 3 days in the dells. She took enough snacks for 10 people for a week.  I didn't get back in time. Conditions have sucked lately. I couldn't go below 5w checking into the qrp net on sunday. |

YES! First time in forever I've been able to check in. Between band conditions and geography (I'm in a pretty deep bowl, AND I've got power lines all around me), it's been almost impossible to check in lately. |

You were next-door loud and clear. I'm on a Yeasu FT-891, so max 100w, and my geography is...compromised. 300' hill from NNW to NNE, and power lines all over the place. Attached File Purple is my current 40M EFHW. (Green dash is my future orientation, need to do some mods to my garage roofline first.) Red are powerlines to my house and the two on either side of me.  Most net days I hear crickets, very occasionally I'll hear some OH or NC stations. Last night I heard most everyone clearly. So with my luck, I'll be able to check in again in 2028.

Look for an MFJ-1025/1026, Timewave ANC-4 or the more pricy DX Engineering version of these noise cancelers. My preference is anything which allows the use of an external sense antenna. For this I would use a vertical. McKay-Dymek offered the DA-100D, which has a preamp/attenuator setup built into its control box. I have one to feed my pair of 1026 units. A similar setup would work well to scrub your noise. |

I will be honest. I have a simple end fed half wave that TVille helped me set up and I hear all of you every single night we are on. From Texas to Wisconsin to NC. He can tell you what the 49:1 is but regardless…EFHW works and is simple. I do have it on a fiberglass mast at 46’. Maybe $400 total including the mast which was the majority of expense at $300. Hell, come to the Appalachian apocalypse and I will show you my set up. Though it is boringly simple. |

NC always has a good signal.
