So I won an Baofeng UV-5RHP in a raffle at one of the seminars at NV Con.  Not having had one of these radios before (Have the 888's and B5) I tried to get it programmed in Chirp after quickly determining panel programming was just as difficult as my B5.

I had zero luck in getting Chirp (daily ver 20170401) to connect to the radio.  Using a genuine Baofeng programming cable (with a genuine Baofeng bootlegged prolific chip ) under Windows 7.  Radio firmware on Power/3 shows as BFP3-25.   Power/6 shows as 160328N

Error message I routinely got from Chirp was "Radio did not respond."

After setting Chirp to BF-F8HP I was able to read the radio and write to the radio.

So for those running into problems with the Baofeng UV-5RHP radios and Chirp, try using the BF-F8HP and see if it responds.

The GT-3TP uses the same hardware and firmware as the BF-F8HP also. Any of the UV5R variants with 3 power levels are probably going to be the same as the BF-F8HP.

After buying a genuine cable for $20, all my programming problems went away.
