I have an Icom 718 that I would like to use headphones for listening only to keep from disturbing the xyl (and thus keep me out of the dog house).
I recently picked up a box of "junk" at the thrift store and it contained a David Clark H10-13S (aircraft) headset. Will this work ok with the Icom 718? Cause any issues? I plugged the headset into a home stereo using the 1/4" jack and they sound fine and are very good at blocking outside noises. Anyone ever tried this? Just want to make sure I won't damage my radio. Thanks |

Well if I remember correctly there was an article a few months back in QST about converting aircraft headphones, I would guess they were Clark's, for amateur use. Don't remember which month but wasn't to long ago. Might be worth tracking the article down.

Thanks Crazy talk... it'll never work...forget it. Dan Gagnon WZ1P made the interface for my IC-7200 after he painted the radio back in late 2012/early 2013. The red button is an additional "casual" PTT switch with the large green button being the main switch for use with gloves or mittens. The 1/8" jack on the bottom of the PTT is for a foot switch. Heilwire used from PTT switch to Heil Stealth connector at radio. The PTT unit is waterproof and shockproof so it can be used in bad weather and rough field situations. DC headsets have been the go to headsets for high-noise environments like aviation, racing and fire fighting for many years. The model I used, H10-36, offers 24db headphone attenuation for ambient noise and 120db microphone attenuation for background noise. I could have used a pair of Heil Prosets for ham radios for less $, but I like the aviation style because I've used them my whole career and they look pretty cool with my OD 7200.
