Ok, I've always had this problem with DM780 but I'm finally trying to figure it out because I'd like to use the SSTV functions of DM780. I have no way to control audio level/TX power because the sliders are "greyed out"

As you can see from the screenshot, I can't control either the RX or the TX slider.  This means I have zero control over the TX level except to use the soundcard volume in windows which doesn't work because it plays the "DING" every time you try to adjust it.  Besides, I should be able to use the damn sliders.

If I select options ---> output attenuation,, I can control it a little bit but that's like trying to drive with a stuck throttle by using the gears alone.

Additional info:
DM780 Version 5.24.0.38 Release build 3474
O/S Win 7 Pro
Radio IC-7200

I should probably let the IC-7200 owners here respond, but...

Your Windows default sound device should be your sound card.  Shouldn't you be using the USB connection to the IC-7200, which is a different 'sound card' for DM-780?

All of this is true in my case.  It's set up, it transmits fine, does rig control fine, etc.  I just have no level control.

If you are confused by my mention of controlling volume via the volume in windows - you can still do this via the Windows volume mixer - even though the radio it isn't a "sound card," windows still sees it that way.  It shows up as "USB AUDIO CODEC" and is only used by the programs you  select (FLDIGI, DM70, etc) while your regular sound card remains your default which plays all of your other sounds on your PC.  Regardless, all of them are still controllable via the windows volume mixer.

What sent me in that direction was the "ding noise" comment.  I only get that in Mixer with my Windows sound devices, not any of my radio sound cards.

I just fired up DM-780 and my sliders seem to be grayed out just like yours.  I also can't get it to PTT anymore and gave up on it long ago, though it is sitting here receiving just fine, and I have the latest paid version.  I went to Fldigi but that doesn't help you here with SSTV.

Yeah if you change the volume level via the WIndows mixer it will play a "ding" on that soundcard... so word to the wise because that will send the ding out over the air but you won't hear it through your speakers. (tune to 14.070 you'll hear it all the time )

Oh well if I can't get it to work I can't get it to work... I gave up on MMSSTV and since I do have some functional use of DM780 I decided to try it instead.  If I can't fix it it isn't the end of the world.

Hmmm...

My transmit slider works.

It's got to be a setting somewhere

Try changing to the IC-7200 sound card in the volume mixer.  That's the slider that adjusts the power level on my setup.
Use the drop down box and select the card for your IC-7200.  (I renamed mine to identify them more easily.)  The default one at the bottom is the one that controls the volume of the "DING" and the voice on JT Alert that says "CQ" , "Wanted DXCC", "Wanted Call", etc.

Oh well, who knows.

I have enough control I can give SSTV a shot, I'll continue to use FLDIGI as I like it better anyway.

I just hate problems like this where I can't figure out the solution...

Must be a version 5 thing.  The xmit level adjust for my version, 6.3.0.446 seem to work just fine through DM780 for my 7200.  The receive level I tuned through Windows.  There's an article floating around about the receive levels in the 7200 getting jacked up by something to do with the driver for the chipset.
