I have been experiencing extreme RFI from an Internet TV service offered by my local telephone company.
Basically the local telco uses HF frequencies between 500 hz and 18 Mhz to provide high speed internet and TV service to its residential customers. This recent installation has basically made HF unusable from 160m through 80m. My neighbor's home is fed by an un-shielded aerial cable drop. This drop is acting like an antenna and is spewing out RFI. This interference is so severe that it makes 160m and 80m unusable on any given day. I made a complaint with the FCC, but have not yet received a reply. I was wondering if anyone else has experiences something like this and what the solution might be? I have also attached a screen shot of the interference I am receiving. You can see that the interference is strongest between about 1.9 Mhz and 2.6 Mhz. |

You say it's 500 kHz through 18 MHz but only shows up on 160-80m... does it not affect 60, 40, 30, or 20m?
In the interim, you could show your neighbor the screenshot and say "You see this? Your internet connection leaks into my radio and I can see what you are looking at online. I mean, everyone likes porn I know but damn man maybe you should take up another hobby or something!" |

That's pretty nasty! Is this just IP traffic over VDSL rather than ADSL? Have you notified the telco that they're interfering with a licensed service?
A pixel loop may be able to completely null that out depending on the neighbor's line location and orientation. It would also null out desirable signals in that direction too. I've been trying one all Winter and they do null out point sources of noise well, but other than that I've been less than impressed. I've done a lot of A-B testing and only once could it pull out a weak station better than my other antennas. Do some searches on VDSL RFI, maybe you can find some ideas there. Maybe work with the ARRL on it. http://www.arrl.org/files/file/Technology/tis/info/plc/vdsl-tia.ppt http://www.eham.net/ehamforum/smf/index.php?topic=56696.0 |

I think the fact that its knocking out serveral Air Force and Army Mars nets may get me more traction with the FCC.
I am maintaining a daily log of interferce with screen shots to documnent it so I can leverage that to get the telco into compliance. The 160m and 80m DX season is winding down, but I can't live with the interference with my MARS nets. |
