I did the hardware mod (removing solder bumps 4 & 5) to my VX-7R. After doing the factory reset (held Band, 4 & V/M while powering on) I tried to program a GMRS freq (462.5625). As soon as I type the "6" it exits out and goes back to the previously selected frequency (144.000Mhz).

Has anybody ever done this mod? I suspect it may not let me type it in because I am not in the correct band. If I press the band button I can cycle through: 140, 222, 430, 50. I tried 430 since it was closest and it does the same thing. Also, I tried to turn the dial on the top to manually step up to 462.5625, but after I get to 450.000 it just returns to 430.000.

You might need to change your frequency steps. 12.5 should allow you to tune to that.

It would not let me type in 465.000 either.

Can you manually tune to it via the VFO?

I figured it out (actually an Amateur Extra-licenced electrical engineer at my work figured it out after hours of research). The factory reset procedure is NOT adequate for the VX7R. This is what we had to do:
1) Factory reset (V/M+4+Band while powering on) while powering on
2) Some other factory reset (Moni+HM/RV+Internet) while powering on
3) Some other factory reset AGAIN (Moni+HM/RV+Internet) while powering on

I believe that steps 2 & 3 cycle between the EU and US modes. The EU mode is software-locked to only work in the HAM bands (you can not even tune and listen out of band)
Works like a champ now!

Interesting. I've not used a dedicated ham rig in years. So I am out of touch with what it takes to mod them now a days.

I was able to get full tx/rx from my VX-7R without messing with the jumpers all. I used the VX-7R Commander software.  It has software jumper settings built in.  Just click the jumpers you want to have on/off, load into radio and it's done.

I believe the newer versions of that radio removed the software jumpering capability.

Same here...what are band limits?

Man, I just thought about it. I've got coverage from 1.8-950mhz with very few gaps. I have radio problems...
