| should I be in cw or ssb mode? Is there a preference as I'm hearing signals on both but wasn't quite sure which would be more productive. |
| When your rig is in the SSB position, the bandwidth is wider. A wider 'door' to let signals through. That's why you hear more 'SSB CW' even though SSB CW is a misnomer. The CW position puts a filter in the rcvr line and narrows the bandwidth. The result is less signals but also less noise. |

You can usually find slow speed contacts around the SKCC operating frequencies. Check the website for where they are. If you hear someone calling and you're uncomfortable with their speed, reply at your speed. In most cases, they'll come back to in kind.
In fact, why not join us? We have twice-monthly sprints that'll quickly hone your skills. |

I highly recommend SKCC for new CW ops. They are very welcoming. Just go to their "SKED" page and say you're looking for your first CW contact you're almost guaranteed to have people falling all over themselves to help you.
The SKCC areas are about the closest to the old novice frequencies you'll find. |

Got really close to working K3Y/5 but the qsb was really bad and couldn't exchange all the info for the qso credit. I tried calling cq quite a bit today around 7.114 but my antenna isn't the greatest and I'm not sure how much rf was actually being radiated. Looking at the skcc sked site it seemed that conditions were tough all over. |
