Well . . . at least someone found a use for a Smart Car.  I know, it's not technically ham related, but I couldn't resist sharing.

I do actually have a ham related question, though.  The APRS track for today's travels shows some back-tracking that didn't happen.  Take a look just north of Denver and then again to the east of Denver.  Any ideas on what's causing this?  The radio is a Yaesu FTM-100DR that's set up to do APRS beaconing.  You may have to adjust the tail times to see the whole track for 10/7/15.

You only report position "x" number of minutes. I'm guessing that your built in GPS drifted (for some reason) and reported your position inaccurately on 1 point. The computer just plotted it with the time stamp.

We have trouble with iGates up here, which can cause the problems you see on internet systems when everything's fine on the RF side. I suspect we have a Denver Metro iGate that's a little troubled, but haven't looked into it in a while.

Unless you see this behavior everywhere, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Your other tracks look fine.

That's a "heavy duty" snowbird hauler. I'm starting to see them here in sunny AZ as the 'birds migrate in for the winter.

are you ready for people making u-turns from the right turn lane and driving the wrong way down suicide lanes (actually I think these are gone in Tucson anyways) / aviation highway / i10 in general?  gotta love the snowbirds.

I did some Giggle research on the APRS inconsistency, and apparently it’s caused when there are several iGates (digipeaters?) within range and one or more is slow at reporting packets to the big momma in the sky.  IF the packets arrive out of sequence AND the packets don’t have a time stamp OR the iGate’s clock is slightly off, then momma gets confused.  I’m guessing that the originating radio can’t time stamp the packet because there’s no reliable clock in most radios.

I've not seen this before in my travels, so I was, like, WTF??
