When I passed mine last yeaar there were several I just guessed on. No clue what I made. Nobody tells anybody here what they made, pass or fail only and that was two different testing locations in two different states. Congrats to the two of you. I'm reading the VE manual now and from what I can read, they have to tell you your grade, not just pass fail. Not that it matters now lol |

When I set for my extra the only thing that really had me worried were the RLC formulas and a few others. My math sux!!
The rest of the sub-elements were a piece of cake.. So crunching the numbers I could miss ALL the math questions & still scrub by.. Only had a couple of em.. took wild assed guesses.. Missed only one question on the test... Was sittin there doin the happy dance.. Congrats to the /AE's!!

Con-Grats! When I did mine they told me I got just the required number of correct answers (I think it is 37). Not bad for taking the test on a whim without doing any studying, I reckon. They asked me (jokingly I think) if I wanted to know which questions I missed. I said no, I was just too spun up at the moment to care about it and besides, it wasn't like I was going to have to take it again! Obviously without doing any studying I had to make some guesses and had some good luck, but I was surprised going through the test reading question after question saying "hey I KNOW this stuff". And it was in the manner that there were principles I knew and still I had to engage the brain pan to pull out the answers, so it WAS hard and I don't feel guilty at all that somehow I didn't earn it. It helped, having been a ham for nearly 30 years at the time and having been involved in a lot of different things over the years. A lot. |

Quoted: Congratz! Extra looks like fun, but a lot of work. But don't think of it as work, as the knowledge to get the extra ticket is good knowledge to have in HAM radio anyway. Congrats to the OP, now get your key from AR-Jedi to the extra mensroom. |

I had not expected to pass at all, had just taken and passed the Tech and General test just before. I had only studied for Extra on the way to the hamfest while my wife drove. Everyone told me to take the General for practice. Well, I had done well on both Tech and General on the online practice tests, was sure I'd pass both of those. And I must have drawn an easy test. I commented to the VEs, "I wish I had had longer to study and could have scored higher." They replied, "A pass is a pass. You're an Extra. If you score 100% the FCC isn't going to put a gold star and smiley face on your license. All you have to do is pass. Congratulations, welcome to ham radio!" It's like, "What do they call the guy that was last place in his medical school graduating class? "Doctor" |

And when I did, he told me, Congratz, you never have to take another ham test again. I upgraded to extra so I wouldn't have to worry about being out of band. |

Congrats!
I hold the dubious distinction of having passed the Extra test twice I sat for Advanced and passed, and went ahead and took the Extra and passed. But I missed the 20wpm test by 1 question and didn't go back and pass it in a year so my CSCE for the Extra theory expired. So when the rules changed I went back and did Extra again. |

| I took all three exams on 2/26 and passed Tech and General, missed Extra by 2 points. I had studied hard for the first 2 tests but not the Extra as it seemed to be too much to deal with at one time for an old guy. I passed my Extra 3/7 and had 2 incorrect answers. The VE team volunteered the scores both times. At present only have a 2M/70cm HT but the neighbor that just moved out gave me her father's antennas that were stored in the garage. I tried to see if she would sell the Collins gear he used, but it is too dear for her to part with at this time. She did say she would let me know if it ever was available. One of the antennas is a Cushcraft HF vertical and the other is a Hy Gain but still in an old box so I am unsure of the type but suspect it may be a beam. Guess I will have to start looking at HF radios now. I used to hold a RadioTelephone license and radar endorsement and worked in the communications field for a few years. Let them lapse when I changed occupations. It is going to be fun to play with radios that are not work related. FWIW, these exams seemed much easier than the RT/CET tests I took in the 70's but then again I have quite a few years of hands on electronics experience since getting out of tech school back then. Much to learn in this new area. 73 to all. |
