http://www.wsj.com/articles/radioshack-to-launch-first-wave-of-store-closing-sales-1423257675 I may swing by one to see what the "deals" are, but I have a feeling it is still going to be overpriced crap. Fingers crossed for "cheap" components, batteries, or something worthwhile. |

Nothing yet...the whole store was 20% off with not much left on the shelves. I was thinking there would be more there. Might try the other one in town just to see what it looks like. |

There's a store here around town that buys up insurance lots, bankruptcies, etc. that has had a few RadioShacks come through. Stocked up on cheap solder, irons, coax, and a bunch of other odds and ends. |

Well I snagged a 102 inch whip at 50% off. It was in the back and I had to ask for it. Also I snagged one of their $65 multimeters at the same time. At $35 I wasn't going to leave it hanging on the wall. Someone else had already cleaned out the RaspPi, BeagleBones and ALL of the solder. |

It is going to middle of this week before I have a chance to go check two rural Shacks. I guess by then it is going to be too late, but that is the chance I take.
On the plus side may find the odds and ends at nearly nothing. I remember many years ago rummaging the clearance bins for discontinued items. |

Quoted: the one at the mall was mostly empty of stock yesterday they must of bundled it all up and shipped it to sell online for a while they seem to have been shipping stuff out to other stores. I hit three of the local shops that were closing - 50% off whole store, 80% off parts bins items including arduino shields and microcontroller stuff. I bought a bit. The cashier at the store in the mall said something like "i don't think i've EVER sold this much out of the parts drawers all at once..." and I was just buying whatever knobs they had left. Overall pretty sad. |

I was at mine. 40% off on a digital iron (so I bought it). 60% off on components (the local parts store can't compete with that for a change). They also had some "grab bags" for under $12. I bought one and it had nothing but fuses and fuse holders in it. Even had one of those big cylindrical fuse blocks (two fuse holders), gold plated brass…imagine those things are $12 or more on their own.
All of the scanners were gone but the parts bin was nearly full. I may go back and get a few more random parts and ICs. |

Y'all check the map in the OP and make sure you are going to a store that is going out of business. It seems like it is mostly corporate stores, but not all of them. The franchises are doing their own thing. Anyways... I stopped by and my closest corporate store was doing 50% off. I got 2 12ah sealed lead acid batteries for $14 each, as well as a couple project boxes (for matching transformers), some switches, misc. crap, and a gaggle of misc. resistors and capacitors. Every time I see a project I want to build I don't have the resistor or cap that I need. Don't (now can't) want to pay $2 for it at rat shack and don't want to pay $0.87 for it plus $4 shipping online so I just say "F it". No more excuses. So, I got those 2 12ah SLA batteries, some switches, some fuse holders, and some connectors. Gonna make an ammo can portable battery box. I'm set for home batteries with those 4 500+ amp hour AGM batteries that I got for a song. |

Stopped by one closing store, and the prices on components were buy 10 get 50% off. No great deals!
People were buying overpriced radios for 30% off. Again, no great deals! I even thought about making an offer for a lot of stuff to see what they would take , but I had no way of bringing it home! Hey, I'll give you $300.00 for this entire section, including the component drawers, will you take it? I had used that angle with other stores closing before and it worked. Bill |

I just checked and none of the stores I have routinely visited here on Long Island are on the chopping block. In fact, very few here on Long Island are slated to close. i'm sure that their primary business selling type CR2032 garage door opener batteries for $10.95 each will continue to be brisk. ar-jedi |
| The store that I managed is on the cut list. To be honest with you, It should have been closed a decade ago when I was there. It was too close to two other RadioShacks, there wasn't enough storage in the store to hold merchandise, seriously we had offsite storage, and the cordless phone batteries to blue haired women were all that kept the doors open then. |
I got a really good deal on a couple of 12ah batteries. If you saw my other thread you know I'm state agent for large batteries ( ), but I wanted something portable-ish for "cheap".Well, $20 for the pair of batteries... and around $50 worth of "stuff" to make a fancy ammo can battery box later, I've decided that I probably shouldn't have done that ![]() Will post pics when the parts come in and the fancy box is complete. (of course) |

For about $100 +/-, I scored;
5/8 2M discone antenna 7AN 12v SLA battery soldering tool set 3 Y splitter 1/8" stereo cables 8' stereo headphone cable 2x PL259 F2F adapters 4.5" Dykes 3x BNC to TNC adapters 2x PL259 M2F adapters Heat sink silver compound 2x PL259 T's |

I hit 2 of the local stores that are closing in the area. They have been picket over very well. I did find a few items.
1 Discone Ham Antenna 1 Fiberglass CB Antenna 1 Scanner Discone Antenna a bunch of RF connectors, converters, and adapters The total was about $190 and I got it all for $90. I do wish that I had gotten there earlier to catch some of the other tools. They were all gone. |
|
It's all 40% to 70% off ay my local store.
The MOST interesting thing (for me anyway) is the drawer units that held the switches and capacitors and stuff. They're all really clean and in good condition......but...... They want $300 for each unit (4 or 5 drawers). Way to much, and those aren't moving as near as I can tell. I need to slide back in there and find out the final day, so I can go in and offer to buy them all for one stupid price. The clerk told me last week when I was in that a lot of the store fixtures have been selling, primarily the shelving in the back. The pegboard stuff out front was still sitting though. I saw on 102" CB whip still in the wrapper leaning against the wall. That would look good on my CUCV M1009, if I put a CB radio (or 10 meter). |
), but I wanted something portable-ish for "cheap".
