It is doable. I messed around trying to get everything set just right and never had much luck. Last night I was able to get P25 to decode. Since there was plenty of traffic due to the new years it was like shooting fish in a barrel.
I have been able to decode the control signals for a while but was never able to get audio. The trick in "inlvl". It is a % and I always thought 100% was what you wanted. After reading this I learned that you really should start around 30-40% and go from there. I have it working on 2 computers now by adjusting those settings. The flow goes like this; P25 repeater > my antenna > RTL SDR > GQRX > pulse audio (digital audio) > DSD > pulse audio (demodulated audio) > speakers Also I was able to get DSD+ to work under wine. We compared the two side by side and couldn't really tell much of a difference. The Linux DSD is based off of 1.7 and DSD+ is based off of 1.5. There are a few differences between the two but both handled P25 just fine. DSD+ gives a little nicer interface but dsd gives more raw data. Either way it is fun for $20.

| I was listening to it all night with gcw. Overall, I wasn't impressed with the P25 audio itself. I don't think it was the decoder. But some voices, especially those of women, sounded like they were going through an autotuner. Thought it was cool, though overall. We'll get a better antenna up soon I promise. |
