Just moved, put up antenna on a mast in the middle of a tree.  Had great transmission and great reception than blamo, I'm getting
out, but nothing but static on reception.  I swapped out cable with a brand new RG8 and problem still exists.  I don't know where to look for problem.
Oh yeah I also extended the mast another 4 feet when I swapped cables. Running a Yaesau YT7900 in garage.

Do you have another antenna that you can connect to the radio? This would let you eliminate the radio as the problem.

Easier to hook a HT to the antenna, which I have done, with same results.
If I had put my antenna up and had poor reception I could accept that but I had great reception for a few days and then
the bottom fell out so I am at a loss.

What antenna? Any chance water got into it or is making contact with the tree?

Possible a limb is touching it.  I didn't think about that.

Well..... if you changed radios and still had the problem, then you changed feedlines and still had the problem, there is only one thing left.

Well, maybe that is simplistic. You say it works fine on transmit and only doesn't work on receive ?  How was this determined ?

Do you have any kind of test equipment ?
An Antenna analyzer ? A wattmeter ? An SWR bridge that works on VHF ?

Did you move another eletronic device near the radio? If I turn my PC on next to my radios, 70cm turns to static all over the band. My PC is a monster gaming rig and has fifteen cooling fans and a water pump, so it may be a very local issue.

A friend is going to bring some testing equipment this week.  Since I posted this yesterday, I have learned that
my transmission has also degraded so obviously I have a short in my antenna.  Thanks for all of the input gentleman.
