Decided to do a homebrew external antenna for my HT-60. So I can only transmit on 144mhz and 430mhz bands. Most everything I have been listening to is 144mhz. What frequency should I tune my antenna for? What will give me the best performance? Thanks in advance.

Congrats GAL. Just kidding.
ETA - As far as tuning the antenna you probably want to focus on 2 meters.

I have two of these, a roll up for the em comm box and another in pvc outside the shop. I bought mine as I have more money than time right now but they are inexpensive and easy to build. Also easy to make for dual band.

Tune it to 146 mhz, and the wide bandwidth of most 2m antennas will cover the whole band.

Go to www.hamunivese.com and on the left click "Antenna Design".  Scroll down and you will
find plenty of homebrew 2m antennas.  The "Ground Plane" is quick and easy, all made onto a
SO-239 socket.

For FM you don't need the very bottom of the band, I generally shoot for 146.5 as the center freq for an FM antenna.
