Somehow I forgot this thing existed (National Radio Quiet Zone).

I haven't really traveled that area like I used to; but today I started wondering how the NRQZ affects FRS and GMRS radio communications.

So far I haven't been able to find a list of what's actually prohibited in the zone.  I see that emergency service comms are allowed as are HAM (with what restrictions), but I can't find any specifics...
Can you guys point me to the correct text for reading? (or just tell me)

Wow, never heard of that before.

However, in reading, it looks like it restricts mainly "high power" transmissions, so FRS and GMRS wouldn't appear to be affected.

I'm relatively close to the NRQZ. It doesn't effect mobile communications through the area. Though they have a coordinator who will work with people who want to plan operating portable just the same. The communications that I have seen with them have been very positive and they appreciated the hams letting them know when/where they would be operating. There are some SOTA summits in the area that I would love to check out someday.
I'm sure that someone else here has a lot more experience with this than I do so I'll let them comment on the specifics.
