Quoted: Thx for spot! Wow, he had such a good signal I had to chat with him also! They are a 650' freighter headed for Charleston, SC. Been there several times. No problem, just sounded intersting. In a habit lately of starting on 17m late in the afternoon and then switch to 20m around 8-9pm local. Have had some really good and intersting contacts on 17m lately and the pileups seem smaller. |

Sorry, side effect of not being being able to feel my fingers. Annoying to me too. Sorry to disappoint, I don't drink either. Quoted:

Never had a martine mobile, but have made have made plenty of contacts while under the influence. Sorry, side effect of not being being able to feel my fingers. Annoying to me too. Sorry to disappoint, I don't drink either. Haha not annoying. You see maritime moble started out of a need for ships to be able to communicate with land based stations. These efforts have recently been solved by uncle sam by using satellite communication. In WW2 satellites and the CB radio band hadn't been invented yet. This ment that only tube radios were on the radio and people who knew how to operate them manned them. If they could have had access to the superior receiver of the TS-570 they probably would have defeated the axis powers in 3 months. Submarines use to use a wire hundreds of feet long that they pulled behind them to make contact with land stations. If you knew your naval radio history you would know this. Instead you just study the answers to the questions and not from the ARRL or Gordon West books, those are the only two methods to gain knowledge about ham radio. You see KFC use to have buffets but lately I haven't seen one anywhere. This is really upsetting to me and worth mentioning. |

Last week I checked into a local 2M FM net as a Maritime Mobile station. I was floating in the middle of my swimming pool and operating my HT. Net controller said I owe him a new microphone.![]() ![]() Ha! If you did that connected to the IRLP/Echolink net, you could work some really cool DX! |
